I know this is not really relevant to Historic Aviation, BUT, one of the furum regulars, and a good mate to many of us “Phantom Phixer” or Martin in the real world, is getting married to a lovely nurse called Katie tomorrow (Friday(, so I just want to be the first to say a “virtual” CONGRATULATIONS, to Mr and Mrs Garett, and hope Katie lets him out to play again soon.
Best wishes to you both from all at the Phoenix Aviation Museum at Bruntingthorpe.
Have a great day, and we look forward to seeing you both soon.
Ritch and Max.
Time to phix the Phantom then, congrats to you lot
cheers

One is the Jeremy Hall cockpit I believe and the other looks to be newly made but fitted with the extreme nose of KB976?

well, i got an answer,
Don’t think they are referring to this item though as Ian Foster never saw it before, he recovered part of one.
I quote
Dear Cees,
Thank you for your email.
We have been in touch with Rescue 57 and they believe that the pannier is no longer at the scrap yard. They looked at it a few years ago and indicated that it was beyond saving at that point.
Kind regards

I emailed YAM again in the hope that they would respond this time.

Any substantial Tempest bits recovered?

I fully agree Paul,
Not only used on the Halton but on the C Mk CVIII as well, any collection with a Halifax (not that there are many) should be at least show some interest, but that’s just my opinion:o

Is it still there?

Yep Peter,
Did it at the time of the thread but even he didn’t reply but later he regularly sends me his updates on LW170. This needs a UK-based group or museum to save it from destruction.
Looking at hte pics it might even be already beyond saving. Is there any interest in this relic.

So can we conclude this item will just be allowed to rot away? Nobody at YAM responded. And I contacted them several times.
Pity:o

Avenger turret armoured glass perhaps

Hi Garry,
That’s correct, the Hastings and Hermes were developed from the Halifax, the Halifax wing was thick to accomodate the wing bomb cells and this was also a reason for some of the drag that was a problem on the Merlin engined Halifaxes at first. The wing centresection and outer wingpanels are almost Halifax with even the partnumbers being Halifax and the intermediate wingpanel being a bit wider. If the Hermes at Duxford could be fitted with hasting wings it would be a complete airframe again, There is a rumour that in a scrapyard in malta a Hastings centresection is rotting away.
Now that would be a good cause for it don’t you think
