Then I must continue raising its profile then. I have said it before and will say it again. What’s the use stockpiling aircraft components without any plans to do something sensible to them while other organisations or projects desperately need them (original Mk III perspex nose cone anyone… which YAM could very much use)
But that’s my humble opinion of course.:o

Yes, as they were the only one to kit the Hampden, Stirling, Halifax, Sunderland etc. In fact, I had never heard of the Halifax until I spotted the Airfix kit in 1981 in my local toystore. The rest is history…..:D

But, they should stop now churning out all those outdated kits and replace or update them. Surely milkbottlebottom canopies are not in fashion anymore.

Probably get put in the corner of a storeroom for many years then chucked into a skip !

Cant think they will have much use for it after all they have a whole one !

Let’s hope they will do something to it, for instance putting it on display next to W1048.

Mine are some original Halifax manuals including a repair manual as well as some original Halifax documents and the original control column that’s the focal point in my cockpit project.

ahhhh Bader’s Spitfire found at last !!!:D

Different subject but kind of connected…any further word on the Do night fighter wreak shown a month or two ago in Flypast ?

Eh no, we have to get permission first as it’s a Seal habitat (not the singer:p )and you know how Dutch environmentalists are, almost like terrorists. So we have to be patient and hope to get permission (any permission at al would be great).
But the aircraft isn’t as complete as the pic in flypast, The tail is seperated and we have the starboard side of the cockpit on display next to the starboard engine, the port engine is on the isle of Texel. The wings are still in one piece but with a lot of upper skinning missing (because of the salt water) but the undercarriage is still tucked up inside the nacelles and the tyres still hold air. There was interest from a German museum which contacted us but nothing more has been heard from them.

Well, I have two Halifaxes already and will get them all. As well as the Blenheim (if they don’t cancel them)

I like the new Halifax apart from the undercart but some swapping here and there is possible.
    Keep them coming Corgi

Typhoon (rear fuselage) – Netherlands museum

This magnificent item is on show during may/september in our own museum called “Fort Veldhuis” and is one of the star exhibits. It’s on loan from the owner so will stay put for the time being.

Less tragic than leaving it on the hill to be picked away by souvenier hunters and opportunists

And the fact that the RAFM scrapped some of these remains doesn’t count then?
    🙁

    Hi Cees,

We tried to get hold of the tail section,(it was even stored in our hangar before RAFM moved to Cosford), I thought that it would be a good thing to cut our teeth on and a good exhibit to boot. However, it wasn’t to be:(

    John

    Hi John,

Yes, I know, Giuseppe told me that at the time.
Strange why national museums like the RAFM do not take that opportunity. What’s the use of leaving it in storage, where it has been for decades and we all know nothing will be done to it for the next decades.
A project of this scale can’t be sucessfully carried out by a small group within a reasonable time-scale.

Cooperation will be necessary between various group or organisations around the country to have a realistic chance of finishing such an airframe.
This is not to criticise the RAF Museum, but decisions need to be made one way or another. National Lottery anyone?
    Any ideas?

    😀 🙂 John,

I meant the tailsection only, not the whole Stirling.
Surely the tail could fit into your workshop coudn’t it?
Think about it, nudge nudge wink wink:rolleyes: 😉

    Great pics Mark,

Hello Hendon, how about restoring the tailsection to complete condition for display in the Bomber Command Hall next to the Halifax and Lancaster.
That way the size of the Stirling can be seen in the flesh for the first time since the last one was scrapped.
Would be a nice follow up project for the Medway guys
    Please please please?

    Thanks for the update John,

It’s great to see that progress is being made. Keep it up. Has Giuseppe visited the Technical University at Delft to see the Stirling conctrol column and rudder pedals there? If so are they interested to let it go for the good cause?

    Thanks John,

It would be great if these sections and other bits could be restored similar to Halifax NA337 in Canada. The Stirling is too important a type to be lacking from a national museum. I know, money. But if the same effort was available that went into the Vulcan then the results could be staggering.
If only a fuselage could be put on show, that would be a great thing.

    Cheers

    John,

What’s the status of the project? The website hasn’t been updated in over a year.

Any cooperation with the museum at Vraux who display this large fuselage section?
