So many interesting stories that at least some percentage of them must contain some credibility.
Go out and have some fun. You could be surprised (and so could we).

They’ll be telling you next that there is a complete Dornier Do215 intact on the sandbanks off the Dutch coast.
Dream on.
Mark
It’s not intact but the tail lies nearby and there an no engines or starboard cockpitside. (they are on show in our museum)

What’s wrong with a Lancaster than can taxi? It’s a living and breathing icon that pleases a lot of people. For a flying Lanc, that space if already filled. We all would love to see two Lancs in formation but that’s not going to happen, due to the cost.

David,
I agree, but the problem is that there are a lot of stories, some even could be the truth.
It would be nice if someone took the effort to find out if there is any truth in this. If I hear a similar story I want to go out to have a look. Too many stories keep being repeated over and over again.
There are plenty of stories that turned out to be true.
Just think about it.

Stuart is right – the paint was formulated such that it could be directly applied to the metal. Modern paints arent, and you will just end up with the paint flaking off.
Use a good aerospace primer, and then paint your chosen colour. No-one will be any the wiser if you do it right!
Bruce
Thanks chaps,
Ok, so primer first and then the interior colour it is.

If we keep this thread relatively on a serious note, we might find something useful……………………..whoahaahahah
Who would ever want to bury a Halifax or Lancaster….with a shovel? Or a bulldozer must have been handy.
Seriously, true or not but some of these myths/rumours/stories/whatever are great reading.

Always with the Halifaxes, is it something that you smoke in the Netherlands?:diablo:
Still I guess that I should forgive, as at least you mentioned one of Avro’s finest:D
Hi Tony,
I knew by using the combination of the HP and Avro product you would be awakened:diablo:
I don’t smoke, perhaps that’s what’s causing this heh heh. If I don’t balance things this would be the Spitfire and Lancaster forum.
Now keep this on topic, any rumours you know of Tony?

Hi Dave,
Yes that’s the problem. First is to make the cockpit as authentic as possible but over the years the paint can be worn away and then reveal the primer underneath which would look rather odd compared to an unrestored museum example. But on the other hand preservation would be important as well.
But as most restorations these days also use primer first, I think tha’t’s the way to go. Mental note: taking ones shoes off before entering cockpit.:p

Avgas,
I know nothting about buried Halifaxes in Yorkshire (but would be nice if true) but the arctic York is no myth as there have been some photo’s circulating for some years on the WIX-forum. It’s very substantial and an ideal candidate for restoration.
There are one or two possible Halifax wrecks in Norewgian lakes/fjords that could be recovered.

…and crashed the Barracuda.
I agree that it is rather shameful of modern British society to forget our illustrious forbears.
Chadwick should be remembered along with many others including De Havilland, Camm, Sopwith, Carter, Folland, Fedden and Halford.
But then technology and science topics seem out of vogue for most and this is encouraging a new dark age to dawn full of religious proselytisers and new age quackery, along with the idiotic worship of the celebrity.
You forgot Frederic Handley-Page and Volkert
Just to keep it balanced:p

It`s a real shame that the media do not do “something” in rememberance, even just say a 30 minute programme.
Sorry, but it really peeves me that such people, that were pivotal to the aviation world in the Twentieth Century do not get a look-in these days. Sure C4 could sacrifice some “Big Brother” air time surely?.
Indeed, R.I.P Mr Chadwick, and thanks for producing a solid, safe kite for our boys, which was “..like driving a bus” according to a Lanc Skipper relative of mine!
Are sure?
It was generally known that you “flew” the Lanc and “drove” the Halifax.

The Midland Air Museum, Cees? Now thats how rumours start, Lol :p
A lovely thought though that would get my vote. After all something like 3/4 of all FB.VI’s were built in Coventry. A little known fact that I read the other day. Hopefully the source is correct in its comments now Ive committed it to the www :diablo:
Well if rumours can help a bit feel free:p

Hi Sage,
Welcome to this forum. What a good idea. Imagine what the IJsselmeer would look like if treated in the same manner. I am going to get me some bottles:D
Nice CGI

Bruce,
Are you and MAM in any way involved in this magnificent project?
