Hi,
Got a couple you can look at: Site covers pilots from North East England during battles of France and Britain. Also contains the nearest thing to an official site for 607 (County of Durham) Squadron. http://norav.50megs.com
Also: http://johnsample.50megs.com A biog site for Squadron Leader John Sample, Battle of Britain pilot.

According to Cossey: ‘Tigers’, 74 Squadron frequently had detachments at Rochford between October 1939 and June 1940. However, my notes from Ernie Mayne’s logbook show that ‘B’ Flight were at Rochford on both 6 and 20th September, 1939, when they carried out flying for the film: ‘The Lion Has Wings’. My notes on Marmaduke Ridley, 616 Squadron, show that 616 were at Rochford from May 26 to June 6, covering the Dunkirk evacuation.
Hope this is of help.

The dispersal was used by people learning to drive. This was later blocked off with a fallen tree and some boulders, most of the diepersal can stil be seen but is well enclosed with trees. In the 80s the local council decided to clear the airfield. The hangar was taken down as well as one or two buildings. The rest was oddly railed off leaving the hotch-potch mess it is today.

This aeroplane was on a farm/Estate about 1 mile west of RAF Eshott. It was there until about 2003 but not sure since.

99p – I’m sure they were less than 2 bob when I first started building them (my first being the Airfix BP Defiant).
Airfix first kit was a Spitfire released mainly via Woolworths. The in-bag kit was two shillings in 1955. If you wanted to be more of a craftsman you could try the soild wood kits: one shilling sevenpence halfpenny for KeilKraft and Veron in 1955.

Hi,
Only letters known are the squadron letters which, for 43 Squadron at that time were ‘FT’. Beedles ‘Fighting Cocks’ does not give it. There is a photo of him in there, however, in my copy its wrongly captioned. I have seen wrie-ups of the dig on this aircraft and they fail to give the letter as well.

Same one is in Johnnie Johnsons book: ‘Wing Leader’.

Hi Nev,
I agree with what you say. I used to be in the GAVA myself quite a few years ago when I lived in the south. It’s those who buy the paintings that put the emphasis on the Guild not the artists themselves. It’s just a fashion thing really. I have been in art for around 40 years and I have a degree in it as well……it means nothing in the end.

£300 for painting? I was offered £35 for one of mine last week. I don’t think he understood why I answered **** off. Different worlds I think.

Very nice. But, what caught my eye was good old Pendle Hill. I used to have that view out my window many moons ago. Happy days, excellent.

Hawker aircraft would appear to be an Osprey. It’s the only one I know where the exhausts sweep under the wing, as in your pic. The Demon exhaust only come half way down the fuselage as does the Audax. Nothing much but it may help.

You could even try this one.
