The photo-sortie happened September 29th 1987 – the day RS712 left for the USA. Crew was George Aird and Sqn Ldr George Stewart of the Canadian Warplane Heritage. Route was Benson – Preswick – Reykjavik – Goose Bay – Hamilton – Miami, arriving October 4th. Kermit replaced Sdn Ldr Stewart at Hamilton, and I think there’s at least one stop missing from the Hamilton – Miami leg.

As far as who was flying RR299, I think it was John Sadler, but I’m not 100% certain.

    Additional:
According to the press release put out by PPS’s Edna Bianchi” ‘ Landing time was 1500hrs Local, with a total time of 27.5 hours airborne having burned 90 gallons per hour’.

It was actually taken by a very good friend of mine, Darryl Cott, who was BAes photographer at Hatfield. The occasion was Kermit Weeks’ RS712 and BAe’s RR299 marking Kermit’s Mossies trans-Atlantic flight. Darryl, by the way now lives in Australia!

This thread makes very sad reading, there are some nasty bits of work out there who should crawl back under their slimy stones ASAP

I see what you’re getting at Peter, but I would take the opposite view – yes, there ARE some ‘not nice’ people out there who look after their own interests at the expense of others – however, the amount of people that have contributed to this tread show that despite having cr*p thrown at them, they have survived, overcome the rubbish and are still involved in aviation in one way or another. They have not let the bad guys win – and that’s a very big positive!

I’m not trying to out-do anyone, but around the same time as completely unfounded allegations of theft was made against me and my wife, one of my fellow directors ended up spending the night in police custody due to totally unfounded separate allegations made in relation to fraud – it just so happened that one of the two people making the allegation (also directors) just happened to work with the police.

There are some truly nasty b*astids out there who will really stop at nothing to get their own way – and people wonder why I am so damned unbelieving and cynical!!!

Perhaps we should all start a “Ploughing Our Own Furrow” club…?

What was it Groucho Marx used to say?
“Please accept my resignation. I don’t care to belong to any club that will have me as a member”.

I would not in a million years EVER get involved with an aviation museum again.

Same here – As East Anglian Aviation Society Member No. 13 (now that should’ve been an omen I guess!) I was one of those kicked out of Duxford in the early days – then got caught up with all sorts of jealousy (I know from who, but I’m not saying) that resulted in allegations of theft when I was Engineering Director of EAAS.

I’ve seen it in so many organisations – I also had it when I founded the International Friends of the DH89 (that used to be a member of BAPC). It got that bad with outsiders attempting a coup, I deliberately disbanded it – it just was not worth all the hassle! I now plough my own furrow.

I would agree that its a DH9 of some description – if not for that streamlined fuel tank or whatever on the top left with the pipework leading to the engine. Looking at other DH9A images….. I just dont see it!

    Local mod maybe?

Please don’t get me wrong here – but the start of this thread is the nicest way I have seen in a long time of announcing someone’s passing.

    RIP

Again, I would wish well, but I’ve been in contact with Warren many times over different things and while not casting one grain of ‘bad’ over Avspecs remarkable and incredible work, that is NZ, not UK.

I’m trying not to be all ‘doom and gloom’ but I just don’t see how realistically it can gain any sort of momentum that is not over expectational.
