Touched the Goose last year. You can tour the interior of the fuselage for free and a trip to the cockpit will cost you.:)
What IS it about that aircraft that makes you want to touch it? I was over in 2002. Driving up the entrance road, I saw the sillouette through the glass and thought ‘Just a big Sunderland’. When I got in and saw it side on… it still looked just a big Sunderland, but then when you get up close its… ‘gawd’!
I think also there’s something about not believing it’s wood, even though you know it is!
Vulcan?… wot Vulcan?
….I was puzzled by the painting of the Vulcan on the front cover. What is that supposed to be slung underneath slightly offset to port???
Errr… the cover of the copy that arrived today shows five Lightnings – this one has a flash of ‘Special Illustrated Edition’….. maybe a different version?

Page 75 showing Boeing model 307 prototype NC19901.
Thank you for pointing that out – I had not noticed it, although they are just visible as tiny dots! If they are wing-tip vents, on what is in reality a B-17 wing, then they have to have been fitted prior to the crash date of NC19901, which was 18th March 1939.
The pic in question is below – along with another showing a pair of vents on a 15th AF machine.
