Nice VC-10 wheel Tony. The cap sets it off nicely. Looking forward to mine arriving.
I’ll reiterate to members and guests: If anyone has a “spare” VC-10 wheel they’re interested in selling or trading please let me know…
Thanks all.
If anyone has an interest in a reasonably decent wheel for a C-141 Starlifter (sans center section) there is one available on US Ebay for a BIN of $100.
Hello all:
This is a re-post from earlier this year. The brake handles on the Blackburn Beverly yoke I bought last year are locked up (as in immovable)…I suspect due to internal corrosion. Lube and metal-mover have had no effect on freeing up the handles. Started the process of removing the end-cap fasteners and discovered they have “become one” with the surrounding metal. Drilled down into one of the (screw) fasteners and ended up snapping the screw extractor inside the screw! If anyone on the forum site has a “secret sauce” for tackling this problem I would love to hear it.
Looking good GYD. I ordered one but still not received. Is the base made of anodized metal or plastic?
Martyn: You can try Nick Louis at “Airline Pilot’s Historical Society” too for the P3 switch assemblies. Finding them specifically for the TR-1 would be unlikely given the nature of the aircraft and low production. Re-labeling the switches is not difficult. I supplied the two sets of photos since you may be able to pull some part numbers and names from them for use in searches.
“These switches”
You didn’t state the aircraft….I’m guessing that’s a Lockheed TR-1 cockpit (heavily modernized U-2). Switch assemblies look very similar to what was used on the P3 Orion series. Photos are of switches in my P-3A wheel.

“Does anyone know where to get hold of the trim switches fitted to Lockheed type yokes – like the C130 – at the top of each arm?”
Different switches for different aircraft Martyn. Attached are photos of the switches in my C130 wheel. Perhaps the P/Ns will be of help in your search.

“The second link you provided still works well for me Nick:“
Thanks for the feedback Darrell. Maybe I had the wrong link. The site I’m thinking of had illustrations and photos of just the control wheels or grips for dozens of German aircraft. The link I have to that site has not worked for a year or more now. I’m hoping the information on that site is still available…..somewhere.
Hello all:
Until last year sometime there was a German website with a great set of photos illustrating dozens of control sticks and wheels. I had this link: http://www.cockpitinstrumente.de/ But it no longer works. I posted here about this and earlier this year a member of this board provided this link: http://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/inst…talogMenue.htm But it now longer works either.
Anyone here know if this German site has folded up shop, or whether they have migrated elsewhere?
Thank you….
Thanks for the heads-up Rob. Much appreciated. I’m going to order one.
“This guy has a few cockpit photos for sale on eBay”
Thanks FB….some great shots there.
Hello all:
The attached photo of the Vickers Varsity wheel in my collection shows two horizontal whitish bars painted on the fronts of the brake levers. Each is just under an inch long and the vertical location of the bar is different on the left and right sides. Does anyone know the purpose of these painted markings?

“Looking to purchase a Lockheed Constellation control wheel”
Take a look at post #1479. He may still have that P2V-7 wheel for sale. 99% of folks won’t know the difference between a late model Neptune wheel and a Constellation wheel, so it may meet your needs.
Congrats FB, on a couple of nice acquisitions. I tried to “deal” with the seller of the Li-2, but he wasn’t willing to come down enough. That IL-86 wheel started out at $10,000us when the seller first listed on Ebay last year!
“I broke open my piggy-bank and put an offer in!”
GYD – I second Tony’s sentiment–Well done!
