awsome pictures, particularly the aerofin, flowing lines and louvering on the tatra its beautiful no other word describes the styling thanks for posting them, how long did your grandfather own his?
since about 1965 to 1990 (model 1938), later he bought Škoda 1000MB because cheaper to run ( in orange colour) from 1968 with rear placed engine as well but not air-cooled and not V8, of course worse car than Tatra

I had 5 years this type T-603 (in black as well), but now I have newer T-613, I am not rich to keep two V8 air-cooled rear placed engine demons 😉

Minimal state of CzAF is 24 supersonics in two squadrons according Czech strategical document Vise 2010 Armády České republiky. So in 2010 acording plans Vision 2010 of Czech Army Czech goverment will decide if the Czechlands will buy other 10 or even 22 new gripens in 2015. That will be about money, sure is 10 new supersonics maybe 22 (somebody have talked). But there is nothing sure about Gripen, the Czechs can return gripens to Sweden, because Czech gripens is only leased without compulsory to purchase after the end of lease agreement and buy another type, it´s question of money and offering. But chiefs of army talk about satisfaction with gripens, so there is chance to purchased some 24 advanced gripen´s version or C version modernisation. We can see in 2010.

Rumcajs, do you have any Czech Air Porce contacts that are familiar with that incident? I was the pilot of the AH-1 and would like to establish contact with someone in the Czech AF. I have some very good pictures of “border operations” during that time to include MI-24 and L-39 aircraft that flew along the border. Thank you.
no, unfrotunately I have not. Maybe try to contact people from this web: http://www.vrtulnik.cz
but here is my translation (sorry for my English) of other cold war confrotation over Czech-German border
8.6.1951, 1st/Lt Lutter Rolland and his number with F-84E have landed on military base Prague-Kbely (sic!!!!) when they lost orientation and for low fuel have landed on the first airport seen!!!They weren´t shot down, because Czechoslovak Air Force had at that time only old Avia S-199, the first MiG-15 have come later
one of the thunderjets on Prague-Kbely AB
10. 3. 1953 there was common flight daybe of 5. SLP (fighter regiment) at Plzeň-Líně AB. At 10:45 S-102 couple of 2nd squadron of 5. SLP take off. Leader is por. Jaroslav Šrámek (plane mark NO-37), which has as a number por. Milan Forst. Their task is standart training attact practising in Merklín vilage area south-west of airport at 3500-4000 m flying height. At 10:59 cca 20 kilometers south of Plzeň town, and then about 35 kilometers from state borderline, F-84E Thunderjets couple from 53. FBS of 36. TFW reveal below left upright on S-102s flight axis having base at the airport Fürstenfeldbrück not far from Munich. Leader of that formation is 1st/Lt. Warren G. A. Brown.
Por. Šrámek report on command post at once to Plzeň-Líně, from where he got order to discharge cautionary fire in front of F-84s. At once he give a order to por. Forst make tight formation and start to stretch the cannons. USAF pilots in the meantime already disclose danger from higher volant Czechoslovak S-102s, turn back and immediately divide their formation. While leadership keep the left turning, his number make to the right climbing combat turn and herewith manoeuvre he escape succesfully. Por. Šrámek after failure cautionary fire get permition to start live shooting. He sight right wing of Brown´s Thunderjet.
Short burst from two 23mm NS-23 cannons hits the oval tank at the wing end and it means well visible white strip of fading fluel. Brown switches tactics and strive in falling to pick up flying speed and escape to the south. S-102 however is quicker and por. Šrámek soon catch impaired F-84 again. Situation is considerably not providing an easy survey. Below aeroplanes is already continuous cloud cover, into this from time to time aeroplanes for short time plunge. Por. Šrámek knows, that state boundary must be already near that is why at 11:04 fire from 300-200 m second burst. This time use 37 mm NS-37 cannon and hit F-84 fuselage behind cocpit. Smoke together with blaze appear from thunderjet and it suddenly falls into clouds. Šrámek subsequently perform rampant turning left and find out, that his number isn´t in formation.
Por. Forst couldn´t keep formation with his leader from the start of manouevring in spite of maximum engine output draw. Subsequently Forst even see second thunderjet, but that manages to hide into scowd in time. Independently from each other both S-102 pilots take 360° turn and por. Šrámek in addition request three times to be located from ground radar station, in order to determines of his position. Then both pilots land separately on Plzeň-Líně AB approximately at 11:20. The second F-84E comes back to its base in Fürstenfeldbrück.
Both sides at once file the expostulatory note. Americans assert, that the fight has happened in Bavaria, Czechoslovak officials on the contrary have said, that the shooting got over Czechoslovakia and shot down aeroplane only fell to the Bavaria, whit is true. 1st/Lt Brown was injured and eject himself from the plane. His thujderjet hit s surface 36km from state boundary near Falkenstein town so it´s then very probable, that Šrámek have fired his second burst already immediately behind state boundary above German territory. It was the first shot down over Czechoslovak – German border of the cold war.

March 1954 por. Zdeněk Voleman with S-103 (Mig-15bis) shot down a US P2V Neptune, the plane fell in German territory again (but historians still don´t know for sure if it was a neptune or another two engines powered aircraft, Voleman couldn´t recognize that). The Americans have never confirmed this one (and more later)) but there is a piece of the aircraft in museum.
Do you have the names of this crew?
no, I don´t know these men.
Have you been able to find out any more on these events??
I am sorry, I am looooong time far away from my home, so there aren´t my books and sources about that with me. Later I will put the info here..

Merry Christmas

Just only 🙂 Santa Claus is symbol of commercial agression in my country, there is a phrase “we didn´t accept some red bolshevik clown from the East – Russian Ded Maroz, we kicked him off to East back, after 1989 the same clown attacks us from West only with different name.” Czechoslovak bolsheviks tried to replace Christ-child and Christian base of Czech Chrismas with Russian Ded Maroz (very similar to Santa Claus) at the start of the 1950s. I am atheist but I respect traditions, so the gifts for me are given by Christ-child, who has been never seen by anybody 🙂 . When I was a small boy it was very magical to get presents from magical unknown Being. Santa Claus is only commercial clown here, people ignore that and more and more people is allergic about Santa symbol and there is some antisanta-movenents 🙂 in the Czechlands under slogan There is all of Christ-child here:-) . Sometimes and somewhere (especialy in supermarkets) it looks like two paraller Christmas – one in TV commercials and in shops with Santa and real Christmas among people in traditional way. BTW I know that Christ-child is Christmas symbol in Slovakia some part of Germany, Austria and in Hungary as well, isn´t it?
