One last thought : Why not the 717 ??

I read about one year ago in the “Financial Times Deutschland” an article that Boeing had plans in a 717-Family and Lufthansa is very interested in that. Thanks to yahoo.de I found this article again and here is the interesting part, although it is first published 6.6.2003 :

I will give you a short translation of this article :

With a future 717-Family Boeing sees a chance to replace older and smaller 737-Versions (-500/-300) with 103 or 123 seats.
Lufthansa for example is flying 65 of these aircrafts all built between 1986 and 1991. The 717 with its 2 Rolly-Royce BR-715 engines which were built in Germany is supposed to be very ecologically and quiet. About 40 % of the plane is manufactured in Europe.

Well a lot of german companies built parts for the 737 aswell and many german carriers fly 737s, like Air Berlin, Hamburg Airlines, Hapag Lloyd etc….

Like I said before, I still believe that Lufthansa will stay an airline which operates both, AIirbus and Boeing. See Air France for example :
Air France is like Lufthansa one of the most important Airbus customers but also flies 767 and 777s.
It is not that way of thinking, that Lufthansa will replace its old 737s with new ones. Maybe Boeing makes a good price for the old 737s and resell them later as freighters. Used Lufthansa planes are always very well liked on the second hand market, Boeing knows that aswell.

It seems that Europe learned of the Eurofighter fiasko and is able to sell military aircraft to an outside market.

Well, I still believe that Lufthansa will stay a Airbus/Boeing Airline rather then an only Airbus operator although Lufthansa was favoring Airbus in the last time.

I always believed that Lufthansa will order the 7E7 as a A300-600 replacement, but since I read today that Airbus is plannning a A350 as an answer to the 7E7 I am not so sure about it.
Because A350 pilots could switch between A330 and A340 which are already in the fleet of Lufthansa and that airplane -if it it is really to be build – would make a lot more sense for Lufthansa then the 7E7.
But because of the 737s which are already also already in the fleet of Lufthansa and the compatibility of the 737 older generations with the NGs it would make greater sense to buy these as the new Boeing aircraft in the fleet of Lufthansa.

I have heard the rumors that the Royal Navy and the Army are looking for a replacement for their Sea Lynx and Super Puma Fleet and are very interested in the NH 90.

The Swiss Army flies both Cougar and Super Puma. The Cougar is afaik a modern Version of the Super Puma

[QUOTE=PhantomII] The ones I can think of are:

    OH-58 Kiowa/Kiowa Warrior (Bell)
    AH-6/MH-6 Little Bird (Hughes)
    Gazelle (Eurocopter)
    OH-1 Ninja (Kawasaki?)
    Bo.105 (Bolkow?)
Can anyone think of others? Which ones do you guys think are the best at their jobs?

-Bo 105 was build by MBB (Messerschmidt, Bölkow Blohm which is now Eurocpoter its succesor is the EC-135 or EC-635 in its military Version, which is only bought by Jordan (? not for sure).
The french army is using AS 350 as scout helicopters (AS 555 Fennec).
They will be a lot more types like Kamovs and Mil Mis but I don´t know much about russian planes and helicopters, so I can not give you the exact types.
The german army will also use their Eurocopter Tigers as Scouts, I believe that they will make an excellent job, maybe it would be an alternative for the Comanche. You will only need an american company willing to make a similar deal like Agusta-Westland did with Lockheed Martin to sell the EH/US 101.

Oh yeah and one more thing. Do any other countries besides the United States and Taiwan operate the OH-58D?

    – OH-58 Kiowa is also in service with the Austrian Army

The 753 is a niche aircraft, catering for a specific order by Continental and Northwest I beleive.

Actually Condor was one the airlines the 753 was custom builtfor.

    How about Lufthansa?
The Belgian Air Force has two or three A310-300’s.

Lufthansa got rid of all their A310s, they only fly A300-600s by now.

    http://konzern.lufthansa.com/de/html/ueber_uns/flotte/index.html

Some of the A310 were sold to the Luftwaffe and are now converted into MRT(T)s.
The future of the A300B4s, A300-600s and A310s will be the same faith as the as it was for the DC-8 and Boeing 707. They will be used as cargo planes (civilian and military).

F15’s – Yup cheap to buy!, HORRENDOUS TO MAINTAIN!!.

Look at through life costs!, then decide which is cheaper…

    Cheers

That why we got rid of our Mig 29s 🙂
I think Australia will buy the F-35, there is actually no doubt about it for me.
Maybe if the Eurofighter is winning in Singapur, there would be a chance, Australia would be interested in the Eurofighter.
But since EADS has already won the Tanker contest (A330 MRTT) and the Eurocopter Tiger is going to be the new attack helicopter of the Australian Army and due to the fact that the A400M and the NH 90 have great chances to win in Australia aswell, the next Australian Fighter won´t be a european product but an american.
Russian build aircrafts like the SU-35, wouldn´t be to bad for the needs of Australia aswell but are very unlikely to happen.

The 753 is an absolute beauty to fly in. Steady, quite and pleasant. No comparison tó any of the Wanna-be-Airliners made in France.

Well A319, A321 and A318 are made in Germany, not in France.
I don´t have any preferences, Airbus and Boeing both make very good looking planes.
But they also build planes which I dislike e.g. the A321 and the 757-300.
I think they both are overstreched long tubes. I didn´t like the stretched DC-8s and the long MD 80-Series either aswell as the the A340-600.

I am a great fan of the 737 though. The 737 is the only plane left with the classical Boeing design, especially the 737-800 and 900 reminds on the true beauties of the skies the 727-200 and the 707.
The best looking Airbus for me is the A330-200.
