So if they expand at Zurich we will likely see the 737-800 for a while longer……….they could use the large number of planes they have when they decide to operate a mixed Boeing/Airbus fleet.

The 767 has much more competition as the 707 had. Airbus wants the military market as well and targets the 767 Awacs/Tanker etc with its own planes (A310MRTT, A330MRTT, A321 AGS). The DC 8 as the biggest competitioner of the 707 did not see that many military variants (one DC 8 US Navy, France Air Force and some VIP aircraft).

Why now MD 900 Explorer. I think the Little Bird is based on the Hughes 500 and a little bit old. The Explorer has proven has a very reliable helicopter on both sides of the pond.

Arms are definitely no priority for the Afgans right now. First of all you should rebuild hospitals and schools and give the people a chance to gain a certain living standard. As long as Nato is there, there is no need for them to have those kind of heavy weapons (and if Nato is gone I doubt that they have the need and can afford A-10 and Apaches either).
Maybe they have the use for small jet trainer/ground attack planes like the Aermacchi MB 326 or similar eastern build aircraft. Maybe small props like the A-29 (SUPER TUCANO) like the brazilian air force uses could be of some use aswell.
But I guess some Mil-17s and Antonov AN-26s like they have now are the best equipment for them now.

Shouldn’t this be on a childrens forum

The Simpsons are definitly not suitable for children mostly. But many people think so, just because it is a cartoon.
Well, and if it is bothers you, why do you even look into that thread

Anyway I have just seen the last episode that was on US television it was great. The one where Homer and Grandpa are smuggeling drugs out of Canada with the help of Mr. Burns plane (a derivate of the Sprooce Goose).
Great Episode, like in the old days a lot to laugh and very critical with society.
Any of the US members seen it, too !!

Several ex-GDR Su-22s were flying with WTD61 in Manching for evaluation and testing purposes. Much more interesting is the story about the sole Su-20 acquired via Egypt during the early 80s. This desert painted bird was kept as a top classified item during the next years to come and was thoroughly tested by the same Manching testing unit mainly in night flights to deter unwanted public.

I meant the Egyptian SUs, thought they were Su-22, too.

In Manching they tested a lot of former GDR planes in regard of performance test and to see what the “old enemy” was able to do. But some of the planes were also tested for an eventual troop service (Mig 29, Mil Mi 24 -donΒ΄t know about the Su 22, though). The Mig 29 was the only tested jetfighter to be later used in troop service (GAF flew the East German transport and cargo planes and helicopters for some years, An-26, IL 62, TU 154, TU 134, Let 610 and Mil Mi 8).

The planes they used for performance tests were the Mil Mi 24, Mig 21 and Mig 23. These planes were all repainted into Luftwaffe livery with (West-) German markings. I read that the only plane -except of the Mig 29 -that they were really impressed of was the Su-22. In some ways it is said to have a even better performance then the Tornado.

You know what amazes me the most about the Simpsons. That there are only a few people who speak most of the characters :

    Dan Castellaneta – Voice of Homer/ “Grampa”/ Krusty the Klown/ Barney/ Willy/ Sideshow Mel/ Mayor Quimby/ Hans Moleman/ Gil/ Itchy/ Scott Christian/ and others
Julie Kavner – Voice of Marjorie “Marge” Bouvier Simpson/ Patty Bouvier/ Selma Bouvier/ Jacqueline (Ingrid) Bouvier
Nancy Cartwright – Voice of Bartholomew Jo-Jo “Bart” Simpson/ Nelson Muntz/ Ralph Wiggum/ Todd Flanders/ Kearney
Yeardley Smith – Voice of Lisa Simpson/ Lisa Jr. (ep #241)/ Lisabella (ep #246)
    Hank Azaria – Voice of Apu/ Moe/ Police Chief Wiggum/ Carl/ Comic Book Guy/ Dr. Nick Riviera/ Prof. Frink/ Cletus/ Sea Captain/ Kirk Van Houten/ Supt. Chalmers/ Bumblebee Man/ Cabbie/ Smitty/ Gabbo (#81)/ Frank Grimes (#176)/ and others [ season 2+, recurring prev ]
    Harry Shearer – Voice of Mr. Burns/ Smithers/ Ned Flanders/ Prin. Skinner/ Otto/ Kent Brockman/ Dr. Hibert/ Lenny/ Rev. Lovejoy/ “McBain”/ Scratchy/ Jasper/ Herman/ Dr. Marvin Monroe/ Dr. Pryor/ Marty/ and others

If this was a beauty contest I would say take the Rafale, but for obvious reasons I hope they will go with the Typhoon. It would be the best solution :

-the Typhoon is a totally new airframe
    -it is very agil
-compatibility to existing and planned weapons -which is the great advantage over Rafale

Ireland has no “real” airforce, too – I think they only have a couple of Pilatus PC 9.
