Continuing the colours schemes trend…
Would the other ground equipment used by the RAF have been Blue/Grey or Traffic Blue including Tow Bars, Giraffe Steps, Safety Raiser, Folding A Frame Steps etc:
Yes it would depend on the era !! all airfield vehicles went through various colour schemes – Blue/grey ,Yellow,Green with yellow stripe, green etc.
Ours at Boscombe are now reverting to yellow !! 🙂
Cheers
It would probably be the 1970’s just need to check and get back to you.
Apache low over Southend at 10:10 this morning, hopefully hunting down the airport protesters.
However, the exciting news for anyone living near Sheerness is the presence of the Richard Montgomery, a US ammunition ship which sank off the coast in 1944 with some 7000 tons of stuff on board. As its close inshore, it’ll rattle more than the odd window if it ever goes BANG!
The Richard Montgomery is 6 miles from my front door… At all staes of tide the masts are above water, its not just the shock wave from the blast that will hit Sheerness and Southend but also a tidal wave that at low tide would not be massive but would still flood large parts of both the Essex and Kent Thames Estuary shore lines however at High tide the water ingress would reach for over a mile or so thay say.

From 2006ish
Howard 500 N500LN over Southend this afternoon, also a chippie
A supporter of the Stop Airport Extension Now! has applied for permission to apply for a Judicial Review for Southend Council’s granting of planning permission on the basis they did not listen to what the the vast majority of the people who responded to the consultation wanted…
The bit that will hopefully trip them up is the fact it was a consultation which is in noway shape or form a leagally binding document.
Thought it was time for a small update,
The Station car park has started to be laid, as well as lighting and bollards going up, the tower is being fitted out at present and is due to become fully operational in February.
However dispite Rochford Council (the land is in Rochford) Southend Council (who own the land) and the then Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Mr John Denham MP all giving their approval for the works to be undertaken the anti-airport group Stop Airport Extension Now! have won the backing of Southend MP for Southend West Davis Amess who is taking the matter to the EU.
He met with the Cabinet of Environment Commissioner, Janez Potocnik, at the European Commission. to rase a number of environmental issues of concern to local residents in Southend West, most importantly the planned expansion of Southend Airport.
David Amess, wanted the then Secretary of State to call in the plans for a public inquiry. He took the case to Brussels to explore if there was anything that the Commission could do regarding the developmets planned.
He plans to launch a petition in the European Parliament on the matter of air quality and pollution generally.
So much for supporting a town that is crying out for jobs.
stampe or some thing very similar over Southed mid afternoon heading South-west
Had Two Spitfires and the Ha112 come over Southend Airport in a loose highish V formation heading towards Margate, they came back low and tighter than an ants bum directly over 426 fantasic sight and sound.
Thought she was in all over red at some point, last time I saw her at Gatwick a few years back she was in bare metal.
In the photo with the article there are no lookers in the bunch of residents so ATC would need their heads read if they were to spy on the bedrooms!
Update from Southend:
The company that designed Centre Court at Wimbledon have won the contract to build the extension at Southend Airport, Capita Symonds won the contract to extend the runway 300m, divert Eastwoodbury Land, rebuild a childerns playground and dismantle and rebuild a section of the church boundary wall.
Work on diverting the road is expected to start in the autumn, with the work on the runway starting early 2011 all work is expected to be complete before the 2012 Olmypics.
The expected cost of works is estimated to be £35million, this includes the £12million railway station ans £3million contral tower already under construction.
The control tower recently gained its “fish bowl” top, a group of near by residents are complaing about the loss of privacy and that new tower blights the view from their homes and is a monstrosity.
They are also complaing about light that are to be fitted to the tower.
The DC3 came in later, beleve the lanc is still at Southend due to the weather its been raining most of the day here.
Saw the BBMF Dakota today, flew right over my house after its flypast at bletchley park 🙂
She came in to Southend for the sickly Hurricane PZ865 she had oil pressure indication problems she landed at 6:30pm (callsign Dakota95)
Spitfire & Hurricane low level over Southend at about 10:30ish this morning,
