Well throughout history Pakistan has been a vital ally to the Americans and the West; Pakistan took in most of the Afghan refugees, and had to absorb all of the problems they brought. At the same time Pakistan has done its share in the War on Terror – but what level of aid did Pakistan get for its troubles? I do not recal Egypt sending in 80K troops on a hostile border – but they got more aid from the U.S than Pakistan did,

Of course, that Pakistan also created the Taliban, assorted Islamist terror organizations and became infamous for its terror apparatus is nothing…
All big bad west & Americas fault..

So tell me, Pakistan has just gone through a massive unpreventable earthquake, it is surrounded by terrorists/militants on its West and an archrival looking to disable it on its East. All it asks is for some compensation for its troubles – and bang we have Western folks who probably never thought of anyone else attacking Pakistan. BTW, India is a growing economy and it is generating wealth; but their destitute population is growing – while Pakistan’s is decreasing.

LOL…so let us get this straight, the US is paying you to fix a problem for which you are responsible, but then again- the amount of money is a question…and of course, insert the mandatory stupid comment about India here…

If you haven’t noticed – ANZA is complaining – not a lot of Pakistanis are, and the Pakistani gov’t isn’t. At least differentiate between a forum jocky and a real government official – genius. BTW, maybe you should tell the Indian caucus to stop complaining about the F-16 deal if these aircraft will not make a difference; and maybe Israel should stop using its air force against terrorists – since one does not need them, apparently.

The Indian caucus will complain, primarily because Pakistan remains a state sponsor of terror, and its claims of fighting its own hydra headed monsters are far from creditable.

With the procurement of Barak and Spyder what’s the point?
Unless of course it is now just purely a technological programme.

    Cost.

India cant afford to field as many Spyders as it can relatively cheaper Trishuls. Apart from the local sourcing strategic aspect of it.

So the just as complicated Leclerc will help that situation how?

And what makes you think that the Saudis care? After all, mundane matters like logistics pale before the cool factor…and there are always foreigners to maintain stuff.. :diablo:

thank you for making the points i intended to make—so elegantly. 🙂

I disagree- it could have used even more frothing at the mouth nonsense, the prior poster was clearly capable of more.

I don’t understand pakistans frustrtation. US is the only country that would sell them any aircraft that they can afford. If you don’t want it, fill in with numbers instead of quality by buying chinese crap. Its not like anybody is forcing them to buy F-16’s, least of all US. Its pakistan that had been begging for the last 20 years for it.

    Greed.

Mirage 2000-5 and sukhois were evaluated by the indians in 1996 and found to be comparable, but russians won the deal with lower priced sukhois.
France after waiting for ( 2 years ) and without waiting for the indian decision on a fresh purchase for fighter aircraft has shut down the mirage-2005 production line and are marketing Refale – which niether pakistan or india can afford.

Gripen is an option and i think musharaf hinted that in his interview awhile back.

Incorrect. The Mirage 2000-5 was benchmarked against the Su-30 K, against which it was superior.
Against the MKI, it was inferior- in terms of combat persistence,( payload +range), and avionics.

    What the … 2015 ?? 😮 😮 2010, and now 2015.. BLOODY HELL!!!!

The hell with ADA & its cohort orgs. 😡 😡 😡

2015 is by when the entire batch of circa 100 plus LCAs will be delivered, ie IAF will have a mature LCA component

    2008 thereabouts IOC
    2010 FOC
Series production at the rate of around 20 a/c a year

Till 2010, 28 aircraft, with option of 20 that will be exercised when the FOC is achieved

    **********************************************

    Seriously, take a chill pill.

I remember how badly the EF was panned in the UK press till it entered RAF colors

Then all the comments about “obsolete”, “delayed” etc suddenly dried up & all the gushing report started appearing

The job of the press is doom and gloom and negativity

    ************************

    Lastly, as regards obsolete

All 4th gen fighters are obsolete, so whats the huge deal here?

KS-172 is more of RD project IMO, there is good chance that it will never see the light of day. Unlike Yakont which was nearly complete when Brahmos project was initiated, KS-172 is far from it and without a lot of $$ (which is hard to justify since its limited to just the flankers where as Brahmos can be mounted on various platforms) project will take quite sometime. But some of tech from the project will likely be assimilated into DRDO’s project such as Astra etc.

Sorry boss, on this (thankfully) you are very much wrong, all i can say! 😮

    Merkava? Wicked, wicked! LOL

Fair point about the Khalid vs the AMX-30’s, but the Saudis are serious toy snobs…for them, something made in Pakistan may just not do…that too its not “western” enough…but then again who knows…

In return for the Khalids, Pak may again send over a couple of regiments ie Praetorian Guard to protect the Kingly butt from rebels, disaffected wahabbi brethren and assorted malcontents who are not enchanted by the glorious visage of the noble house of saud…

Plus theres always the talk on & off, of Pak offering a nuke shield to KSA, of transfers of North Korean taepodongs, now Ghauri Ballistic Missiles or similar units to the KSA etc etc…

So the payback could be Khalids, the “indigenous” Mushaks, a few ten thousand H&K MP5’s and some ammo & spares from POF Wah..

Glorious export “success” & demonstration of fraternal Sunni pan-Islamic brotherhood etc

About the E3s vs Ereiyes.. well the E3s are reputed to be in American control ie they have some level of US involvement all the time, to restrict their use..that could be a factor.

As we have seen in recent days, the Swedes seem to have given up on the long running charade of “will not sell weapons to those who might actually use it :p 😀 ” ( Erieyes to Pak, Bofors in the running in India ) so they might come with substantially lesser strings attached!

And at the end of the day, this is Saudi Arabia we are talking of…it just goes out and BUYS the most fashionable military equipment…;)

However despite all that its seems I am quite wrong.

    Otomat ASM

    YJ-83

So its quite possible that perhaps the missile was decoyed off target or the proximity fuse activated prematurely it exploded such that a fragment caused the damage concealed by the DC mat.

    Daniel

Yup, like I noted previously, some Chinese designed products have had spotty records of warheads/ fusing not working..could have been a case here..who knows..

The Bird of prey was largely responsible for prooving a generational increment in LO technology and therefore was quite significant . Not only did it provide a leap in RCS reduction over the techniques and shapes of a previous generation but it also proved the manufactering techniques that we have come to accociate now with the J-UCAS and other aircraft (such as even the f-35) . However as an aircraft it was never meant to be a operational type but only something that prooved technology and techniques to acheive that level of LO . It is almost a decade old and god knows what advances the Phantom works , skunk works and NG have made from then

Oh s crew you, get to the bloody point :p

The Bird of Prey looked AWESOME

Thats all that needed to be said. :p 😀

The existing Agni-I and II can cover current threats. The Agni-III, which has little in common with the previous versions, is an SLBM and only makes sense in that role, since it falls short of ICBM range. The RV was already tested from an underwater tube. However, theres still no sign of the ATV yet, so the urgency is slightly relaxed.

Why do you think Agni III is only a SLBM? It could be rail launched

Plus where do you get RV was tested from underwater tube?

    TIA

Well why dont the bloody fellows tie up with Israel for making a local/ desi Elta 2052? Or with SELEX for AESA…MMR can go on simultaneously…use that for building up algorithms and coding..

I want MORE of these quick deals and codevelopment projects…little patience for typical Indian attitude of do more with less…read spend as little money as possible..
