HMMMMM I think its the one in the background thats 706…The one at the front is XS897 now at Coningsby:)
It has:( One of the conditions of the RAF selling it was that the tail had to be cut, a very talented welder was involved with the re-building and as can be seen did a very good job:)
No they are the company doing the dismantling;)
Ok here we go a few photos of the dismantling job
First off one from 1st June in the rain before work started
Then on the 2nd June work started on getting her ready to be moved
Internal shot
As requested a shameless advertising shot
Now onto todays happenings. The wings have been cut, work has started on removing the tail
No quote today after some shameless ribbing i decided a hard at work shot is appropriate:D:D:D
Finally the obligatory nose shot
More to follow, hopefully tomorrow
Photos removed but they are viewable on my Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/last_lightning/
Binbrook 74 how did you get on with the guy we talked about, was he receptive to your ideas and suggestions?
If your visiting tomorrow perhaps you could phone and i will meet you there:D:);)
yes shes going to get her wings cut…again!!
I have some shots but their just a Lightning with scaffolding round:( I might post one or two if any are usable
Quote of the day from one of the guys doing dismantling work “I ******** hated them 30 years ago, I still ******** hate them now!!!”
Its NOT being moved today, its going to be dismantled then moved on Thursday, pleased to hear its not going to Sid Dennis (scrappers) but it is going to be staying local, even closer to me than it is now!!
I caught some guy measuring it up (presumably for a low loader) who told me where its going and who has it now, hopefully it should have some money thrown at it and restored, fingers crossed:)
You sure on my way to see
Hows your F1 doing Binbrook 74? is the paint job finished?
Would that be to Ramco then? or has a private individual bought it
Well, “mid May” has passed – any news on what the outcome is?
She is still at the golf range (looked today)

From what I’ve heard the undercarriage lever in the cockpit was stuck, so the pilot went to Cranwell to avoid closing Coningsby (a bad landing at Coningsby would ground the QRA jets) after some negative G manoeuvres the lever freed itself, the pilot was then able to land without mishap.
I’m lead to belive the pilot involved was the BBMF CO, the Spitfire MK356 returned to Coningsby on Thursday(13th)
