Good luck, Steve, wish I was going with you . . . but you may well have bitten off more than you can chew!

it will be no problem, the only place we are tied to is phoenix, NY and Washington, after that we can go where we please depending on time, hopefully seeing as many places on that route as possible. Aslong as we make it back to JFK on the 21st 🙂

Can’t beat travelling out of a backpack in my opinion, beats a nice hotel anyday.

    Hi Hatton,

When you get to Beantown(Boston) you must take a ride by Fenway Park and stop by the Bull and Finch (the Tv show Cheers bar)

Just South of Boston at Stow is The Collings foundation pop over to the Wix board and ask ryan to hook you up with a tour well worth the stop.

Also must go down to Boston harbor to see Old Ironside and the Bunkerhill Memorial.

When you get to Beantonw lets us know their are few of us New Englanders who could meet u with you at Stow’s.

    Cheers
    RER

thanks Rob, may be worth a look indeed.

my initial impression is that you’re being a bit ambitious with your list of places you want to visit. Even in four weeks you’ll be hard pushed to see all of those and you’ll only scratch the surface of any of those places that you list if you try and do all of them.
Do you propse flying between all those locations? You’ll need to to get round them and even then you’ll spend a lot of time on aircraft and in airports.

I’ be inclined to decide East Coast or West Coast and maybe an optional side trip to Canada–maybe a flight home from there.
Mrs Aib and I once spent a couple of weeks progressing up the Eastern seaboard by car, stopping off and seeing places and things and people along the way. We dumped the hire car at Boston airport and flew up to Toronto for a few extra days at the end.

    Hope this helps
    Andy

andy, thanks for the advice, we’ll be taking Greyhound coaches mostly, and the plan is to see as much as we can in the time possible. Most of the travelling will be done overnight. Its definately ambitious but possible and if we run out of time we can adjust the rough route as we go and drop places if needs be. Any indepth exploration of these places can be done on a future trip. A past month long exploration of Europe resulted in 16 countries visited and whilst tiring it’s quite enjoyable to do a whistlestop tour like this.

thanks for the tips everyone. Most places I will visit will have to be centrally located as trips off the beaten path just won’t be possible in general. Is the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry worth a look?

thanks again everyone, best regards, steve

Deary me, i was meant to include a footnote that the ‘US Trip’ would be a ‘US Trip with a brief diversion to Canada’, it really is a US trip but because for an extra few pounds, dollars we can extend the greyhound pass up into Canada, it seems like it may be worthwhile. Im sure our our Canadian friends realise this is gross mistyping rather than gross ignorance 🙂

Thanks for all the info everyone, i shall print it all off nearer the time and then go through all the places on the net and see. It will be my first US trip (with a short diversion to Canada) so im rather excited indeed.

    thanks everyone, steve

ps- I forgot to put Boston on the list.

    thanks flood,

Colonial Bird, Grand Canyon is definately on the list as is Monument Valley so I can see where some of the John Ford films were made. I have no intention of visiting a British Pub 🙂 Nothing worse than Brits abroad who do nothing more than eat in English style pubs etc, I intend to immerse myself in US culture for 4 weeks.

Looking forward to seeing Sentimental Journey as Mesa.

May detract from sales of postcards of the museum and museum guides with photos if everyone is taking pictures. Just a thought.

Obviously with some places, bans are to help conservation wise such as in art galleries.
