Here’s another. The Breighton Spitfire (well, not anymore 🙂 )
Heres my attempts. Some may have been posted before.
One from Breighton of thier Hurricane and of an Islander (Historic aircraft in its own right) on the island of Papa Stour, Shetland
with photographs like that, i doubt anybody would complain even if you had posted them before.
many thanks for such great pictures.
steve
Such threads as these, written with perfect hindsight are a insult to the vets, usually written by people who weren’t there and are academic.
Dresden was a tragedy, for both the Royal Air Force and the civillians on the ground but Britain ,after many years at war, could not risk any sort of regrouping of German forces (no matter how unlikely) and most certainly did not want to prolong the war any further. Canada TD, threads such as these are by NO means an insult to veterans. Everyone who has commented on this thread has shown the utmost respect for the aircrew involved. What would be insulting to veterans would be to forget and not learn a thing.
Lemon Kid said earlier on the thread, ‘Forgive and Forget’. I respectfully disagree, Forgive, Remember and Learn
best regards to everyone,
Steve Hatton
Hatton, this airframe is a REAL basket case! Jet pipes, undercarriage doors, huge other areas of the airframe badly corroded, cockpit windows open (I think the main hatch was open for a time too), tyres off the rims and the rims sunk in the ground pretty much up to the axles. Even the fescalised portion of the mainlegs is corroding. At one time, you could walk underneath her, now she is fully closed off, and I was told by someone at Blackpool that this was due to the state of the airframe. It’d be a shame to see it go, but it really needs to be put out of it’s misery…
I’ve seen the aircraft with my own eyes, you are definately right, I just thought id see what the owner thought of his aeroplane. 🙂
The Hendon vulcan was installed after transport by road in several pieces, so it is possible to dismantle a Vulcan and put it back together. I would just imagine it is very hard, time consukming, expensive and complex.
I sent the ebay seller a question about the aircraft, out of morbid curiosity really, i ask
“”what condition is the aircraft in, is she suitable for static/flying condition restoration? Is she in sound condition. Many Thanks.”
the reply was a beautiful understatement
“Static Only”
Mr Mallet, can you honestly say, with hand on heart, that you actually believe you will ever see Concorde in the air again as a result of your groups actions?
Perhaps restricting your groups aims to getting AF under cover would be more realistic and then perhaps setting up a fund or support group for all of Britains Concordes.
Best Regards, Steve
My personal view is that as long as something is still with us it’s still creating history, to suggest that once an aircraft leaves the military it can not be painted in any scheme other than one it’s been painted in before is in my opinon very narrow minded.
Exactly, do we here cries of unauthenticity when an ex RAF Chipmunk appears in a civil livery or when the Belfasts were painted in Heavylift colours. No, no we didnt.
Andrewman, you are a brave man to open this debate again 😉 I think, as I did 18 motnhs ago, that if this is what it takes to keep the aircraft in the air, then so be it. I don’t see the Red Bull paint job as an unauthuentic scheme as it is an authentic scheme for its’ current employers. Im sure one day she will return to Service colours but I know I would much rather prefer a flying red bull sea vixen than a static rn livery sea vixen.
best regards, steve
Id like to second the comments of support for Mr Izzard. Great comedian, seemingly nice guy and obvoisuly a man of good taste 🙂
Snaps, i see what you mean about the moderators but Im sure it takes them a while to sift through all these posts. Im sure they are doing there best. I would like to see Corsair166b’s post stay where it is, always good to have a reminder of who the narrow minded morons are.
Perhaps Eddie could be persuade to take a part in ‘the few’ with Tom Cruise? 🙂
best regards, steve
(Spot the spelling mistake – I have promised one in each post from now on for Moggy C’s benefit don’t forget!)
makeover, not make-over 🙂
It may be funny for a short while but its pretty sad that any sensible comment is lost in a sea of terrible puns and python quotes. Seems to happen to a lot of threads recently.
So does anyone know what is coming to Breighton, if not, im happen to wait patiently.
Hello, Im back! Sadly I didnt recieve some of the last few messages as I was already well on my way. Its been a great but very tiring trip, well worth it though. I’ve managed to see some pretty amazing sites and must have managed to travel in a ridiculous amount of different kinds of transport including;
Shetland Council Electric Van,
Post Office Van,
Outboard Motor Dingy,
Britten Norman Islander,
Valhalla Brewery Van,
as you can see, only one is aviation related but a strange selection nonetheless. During the trip I managed to get to see a few aviation related things but didnt get near any crash sites. Managed to see Sumburgh Airport (and the nearby Puffins ) and also flew from Tingwall (Lerwick) to Papa Stour (the most isolated place I have ever been to) in an Islander. The best thing about the Islander trip is that i managed to sit in the Co-pilots position on the way back but sadly my feet and hands were tragically not on the controls!
Also managed to get to visit Britains most Northern Brewery, Castle and Airfield. Plus, on the way home today, saw 4472 The Flying Scotsman!
I will be able to post the pictures hopefully on Friday.
Many thanks for all fo the advice about the trip.
Best Regards, Steve
