Rather dishonest for a start, also I think people like the memorabilia aspect of it too. 🙂

Personally I would have much rather seen it go to Hendon where there are no transport aircraft at all IIRC. Although it has a more interesting British life than the one in the AAM at Duxford which is ex Spanish and SAS.

Im afraid she would have to be made out of fibreglass to get in hendon the way things are going 🙁

Kev, no need to withdraw from the thread at all, not in my opinion anyway.

To get back to your original post, your opinion seemed to be that you would rather the Vulcan did not fly as you felt if it were to suffer an accident then the ramifications upon the airshow industry and historic aircraft community would be catastrophic. Now it seems to me that for you to say that means that you either have a lack of faith in operation of an aircraft of this size/complexity and the possible physical impact that this aircraft could have in a serious physical accident.

Firstly, Im sure the Vulcan will have to be in A1 condition for the CAA to issue a permit to fly, they will also no doubt have to prove to the CAA that they have the expertise to operate the aircraft. They also have the backing of BAe Systems and Marshalls in their favour. So in theory, if the Vulcan ever takes to the skies again, she will be in perfectly good airworthy condition and will be operated more sedately than she ever was in RAF hands. Not only that, but she will have pilots with extensive Vulcan experience (Dave Thomas?). So in theory, the Vulcan should be just as safe as any other historic jet. If this is the case then there should be no individual worries for the operation of this type.

Steve, I’m sure Damien B would agree with your comments about the professionalism of Sally B’s operation. I think the point he is is trying to make is that a B17 is one of the largest warbirds operated in this country and if it crashed then it would have very tragic coincidences but it is allowed to fly becuase it is wonderfully maintained and is very safe. The Vulcan should be no different, it is a large aircraft and would be the largest of its ilk. The CAA, im sure, would not allow it in the air if it was not and I would imagine that it will be maintained in a similarly professional manner as the B17 team.

Kev, whilst i respect your opinion, i do also feel it negative but I can see many of your points have great resonance. However your statement below …….

Perhaps the real difference in our opinions stems from the fact that you don’t particularly appreciate shows and aircraft which pay tribute to those who fought and died for us to have the freedom to speak as we do and Lawn Darts, Eagles and electric flick knives do nothing at all for me.

…..does imply that LN STrike Eagle doesn’t appreciate those that died in the second world war rather than the simple fact he just prefers modern aircraft. Perhaps this is where the misunderstanding has occurred.

This is a good debate lets keep it running.

    best regards, steve

The crowd line was about a 1/4 of a mile away owing to having HMS Ocean out to sea, and at least it did not rain. Anyone know why the BBMF spit and hurri cancelled, fair enough the Lanc went tech but why not just have solo Spit and Hurri displays?

There will be someone on here who will be able to fill the gaps in this answer but I think the reason the Spitfire and Hurricane did not turn up is because the Lanc effectively acts as a shepherd for the fighters. Im guessing this is because either the lanc has some supplementary nav aids that the fighters don’t or because the Lancaster has a Nav. I may be wrong though.

Breighton was certainly fantastic today. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion I was just a car or two away from you to your left at the end of the day Hatton… face was familiar but just couldn’t place it – realise now I’d seen the face on a posting here somewhere!

You may well have been. My dads’ car is a blue vauxhall vectra, we were parked near a polished aluminium high wing monoplane in the light aircraft park. I was the one who was struggling to keep the hair out of my eyes whilst taking photos 🙂 Was certainly a great day, will post my photos up in a couple of weeks when I get back to my own computer. This one is slightly too old to hook up to my digital camera. The Hurricane and Spitfires displays were certainly energetic, particularly the west-east passes where the banked around from behind the ground. The highlight for me though was the Mew Gull which I’d never had the pleasure of seeing before.

She isn’t flying unfortunately but she did taxi today which was rather good of the Breighton organisers. I would hazard a guess that the first flight would be pretty soon.

I msut say that the show at Breighton today was the best I have ever been to! I enjoyed it more than Flying Legends, more than Waddington and even more than Coventry (which is saying something). The blend of excellent flying, relaxed atmosphere and the amazing lack of carnival rides delighted me thoroughly. Ive never been to an airshow of this size before and I must say it was a revelation. Today there were 3 Mustangs (B.B.D, Jumping Jacques and Janie), Hurricane, Spitfire, 2 Harvards, Mew Gull, Buchon, Yak 11, 2 Yak 52s amongst others. Most of these, apart from, understandably not the Buchon, put on stunning displays which were very considerate if photography is your thing. The only down side was the Lanc wasn’t able to make it but after such a great day flying I didnt mind. Hope its a minor problem and she is back in the air soon.

    Best Regards, Steve

£6 for the day sounds like a bargain! Thanks for the replies. If I can get along on Saturday then I definately shall go. The possibility of seeing a ‘109’ in the air would be worth the trip alone.
