Howard, you may get contact with a guy who has some info regarding a relative of his who served with 1661hcu and no5 lancaster finishing school. He was on one of the Facebook group pages so asked him if he would like to pass on copies of his docs to you.
Mk 19? surely you mean mk14 edgar.RM689 was a yucky blue colour in the 60s,think it was the rolls-royce house colours of that time.
If you put all the factors of the incident together the out come could not have been better.God knows what was going through Chris,s mind when things started going wrong but he did what he could with what he had and what he did was bloody marvelous saving him self and the aircraft from serious damage and very possible serious injury to him self. His skill and training played a serious role in surviving this incident.Although the aircraft will be missing from air shows for some time both pilot and aircraft will return to the air which is the best out come any body can want.
Yesterday was a good day for spotting historic aircraft.Over hull during the afternoon was a yellow nosed mustang(Ferocious Frankie?)making its way south closely followed by PA474,PZ865 and TE311 from the BBMF.Sally B was also heading south to the east side of hull around 5pm.Shortly after arriving back home the two wing walking steamans flew over the house heading south towards leicester.A good day for spotting!
A D-Day striped piper cub,S.A bulldog,slingsby firefly and the
the notts/lincs air ambulance were seen north of nottingham
this morning.
Black gazelle helicopter flew into nottingham
airport this morning.
BBMF dak ZA947 was to the north of nottingham this afternoon and was over Papplewick pumping station just after dinner heading north-ish.
And nobody spotted in DCWs post the the TFC Spitfire 14 had turned into a mk16 with a griffon engine.Come on chaps sharpen up!
We already have a buchon in its film colours so another would be pretty pointless. As regards the spitfire does it matter weather its in film colours or not?Unlike the IWM mk1 which is still in an in service paint job and is practically untouched this mk9 has had quite a few different owners and paint jobs over the years so losing it during any restoration wouldn’t be a huge loss. There’s other former film aircraft and vehicles that have lost there film colours over the years and are now just an aircraft or vehicle that stared in ……film.
A jet provost was seen flying to the south of nottingham airport before going in a north easterly direction.Possibly heading in the waddington direction. This was about 4pm yesterday.
PA474 was seen over the humber flying
south around 3-45pm this afternoon.
