The A340-200/300’s are ‘classics’ already? LOL
They actually remodeled that whole thing about 8 years ago, Ren. That whole upstairs area, never used to exist, with the exception of the one little bar in the middle. Where you took the pic of the BA 744, that upper level wasn’t there, it was on ground level. Much nicer now, plus they added all those shops.
The 747’s appearance definitely did improve with the stretched upper deck of the -300, and came full circle with the winglets on the -400. I still love the classic -100/200’s, though. Especially flying on the 747-131’s of TWA in the 70’s (althought I was too young to remember specifically) and 80’s.
“Batteries not included.”
Ironic how Essendon and Tullamarine are literally right next to each other. Do they actually use the same runway/s? What was wrong with the 707, Mongu? Were the engines just so loud (moreso on the early turbojets, to my understanding) that the noise penetrated the cabin, or was it not lined like today’s airliners?
I think those big metal things you’re referring to, Mindoh, are the flap canoes.
It’s a mutant A340!
I’ve flown LH both long haul and within Europe. I rate their service along the same lines as United and Air New Zealand, all 3 of whom I think very highly of. Their seat pitch is decent, comparable to most majors. Food is good, seats are nice. No PTV’s, but that isn’t a necessity in my book, I don’t know about yours.
Mongu, before I came in here, I had never even heard the words, “Isle of Man,” and I consider myself pretty knowledgeable in Geography, as I did rather well in it back in the day, plus I enjoyed it. When I flew KLM in 1989 from LAX-ATH via AMS, they had the inflight maps on the 743’s.
I think I have officially changed my stance on the whole Concorde ordeal, JUST SO I CAN SEE THAT SLOGAN ON A VIRGIN AIRCRAFT!!
Nice pics Ren. Just to let you all know, the Aer Lingus pic was taken at the gate, after security check, naturally. However, that BA pic was taken upstairs in the Lobby, prior to security. You can always get a decent glimpse of the aircraft that is parked adjacent to the window on either side of the Bradley Terminal. Not to mention, aircraft taxiing from the North side of the Airport to the Southside, at the very back of the Bradley terminal, upstairs.
I’ll be the first one in here to take Boeing’s side over Airbus, I think Airbus got it right this time. Sonic Cruiser? Uh, no. Concorde? Gone. Future SST? Not for a while. I actually like the appearance of the aircraft, and I’m sure people thought the 747 was dog ugly back in the day.
Graci…Graci.
If that’s not a corporate jet, what on earth is it?
I saw on Airport that the Aussie Prime Minister, when traveling to the UK to meet with Tony Blair, flew QANTAS. Nobody on board knew about it. He just got driven by car on the tarmac, up the stairs, and into the plane. I’m sure at that stage, some near the door knew. But no prior knowledge for obvious security reasons.
