United uses the term purser. Even on short haul flights with only 3 flight attendants. They will say at the beginning, “My name is so and so, and I’ll be your purser for today’s flight. Joining me today is…..” See? Some of us do listen to the flight attendants!

Yes, the beach is next to the fence alongside rwy 34L/16R. Wunnala dreaming, in this case, is taxiing to take off on 34L. As it is taxiing, the winglets are practically over your head, very close to the action. Many of the pics taken at SYD on airliners.net are from this spot. I believe Wunnala Dreaming will make a comeback on a brand new 744ER in the near future. Nalanji Dreaming is still going strong.

I’ve flown business on Singapore and Air New Zealand in the upstairs of a 744, and I thought it was plenty roomy in a 2 x 2 configuration. I especially like the storage bins right below the windows.

Do S. African still use the upper deck for economy class?

From what I gathered from the tarmac tour guide, the RR’s powered 763’s were there to stay. Also, I believe QF has both P&W and GE engines on their 762’s.

Indeed you are Michael, as you used the UA avatar on aerosite before I got a chance to!

United routinely uses their A319/A320’s on cross-country segments of around 5 hours. No different that flying a 757 on a similar route. I’ve flown LAX-IAD, EWR-SDG, etc. on them. They’re just fine for me, as long as I’m sitting in the isle so I can go to the toilet.

You’re an asset to the forum, Mike. Even in your short tenure. And you love United! Where did you get that avatar from? It’s a lot nicer than the similar one they have at aerosite.

You’re referring the Northridge quake in 94, yes I did. No damage done to my parents place. Lot’s of damage in the Northridge/Ventura area. It shook us up pretty good, though. I’ve experience a few others of similar magnitude.

Big Red, you’re killin’ me! You obviously weren’t paying attention when I asked the tarmac tour operator about those Australian 763’s. He said they only make appearances in SYD during maintenance.

You have the correct spelling, kev, I was trying to figure out was it was! They duly used that same blue and red stripe colour scheme.

Reeve Alleution is/was based in Alaska. They fly along their namesake island chain and operated the Electra up until a few years ago. I’m not sure if they’re still around, if they are, I know they had some 727’s in their fleet along with the electra’s.

The Trents were available at that time for BA, Bhoy. This is why such an uproar ensued when they did, in fact, choose the GE’s for whatever reason they did. Here is the namesake of the thread, taken by yours truly at SYD a few weeks back. My first pic posted on here.
