We cannot all be blessed with inside knowledge or technical know-how.

But we do all have an opinion….so let’s all respect the opinions of others, eh?

    Thank you.

    Indeed. 😀

and by the way, whilst the a330/340 series may look somthing like the a300 they are certainly NOT the same technical vintage in terms of design and materials, making your argument null and void greekdude.

Surely I am WELL, WELL aware of this Coanda, and you surely missed my ‘null and void’ point. I suppose I should have been more specific. Putting it in laymen’s terms, comparing the 747ADV to the 747-100 would be relatively similar to comparing the A330 to the A300. In both cases, same basic fuselage style, with the newer version being bigger, more advanced in terms of aerodynamics, wings, use of composites in the airframe, plus avionics and a whole slew of other areas. Now, I OBVIOUSLY am no aircraft engineer, just one of the aforementioned aircraft geeks. Therefore, I have no research basis for my argument. However, I feel it is relatively valid, and by no means null and void.

There is a big jail there right?

Yes indeed! One of the California State Penitentiaries where they send murderers, rapists, and the like. Funny how the rest of them sit in the middle of nowhere, yet this one is right in the middle of suburbia. It made appearances in movies such as American History X and American Me. But I digress…

Sorry if I missed your point.
Well if they change , the wings , the avionics , the engines , installe FBW it will almost a brand new plane and why still call it 747? Maybe just because it will still LOK like a 747?

No apology necessary. 🙂 I agree with all your points except that it should still be called 747. Besides, Boeing is running out of numbers. 😉

Do you think that Boeing would adopt the fly-by-wire system on this “new” 747?

Hand, this is a point I made earlier on this thread. Sure, it might be expensive to incorporate FBW in the design stages, but in the long run I see it as being more feasible. Besides, a plane that will be launched in 2008 or after, how can you justify it not being FBW?

Boeing will have to sweet-talk the FAA first……..I remember reading in Flight I think it was that the FAA categorically refused to sign off any further expansions of the 747 airframe after the 744. I think they are right to do this as the design is soo old, but I also think they are wrong to do this because the designs needed to get this through statically are basically ALL new (well they’d need to be, the centre box would just be one solid mass of metal-on-metal plates otherwise!)

Well, if you think about it, the A330/340 is based on the A300 which is almost as old the 747. With enough modifications, the 747ADV will be nothing like the original version. Heck, even the 744 is miles ahead of the original 100 series.

    Andy

That makes you, ‘Da man.’ 😎

Yes, i’m curious George, where is Chino situated in regards to LA

It’s about 40 miles east of downtown; straight shot on the 60 fwy. 🙂
