Heres G-EOMA, Monarch A330 at Zurich for Maintenance on the 16th of May 2004. That cabin certianly needs a good clean!

With the seats being removed, it it safe to say that this plane is undergoing a D-check? If so, they have to strip and re-paint, anyhow. With this being the case, I certainly hope they wouldn’t put the old colours back on.

Oh, that first picture! 😀 BA 742’s in the Landor livery; Virgin “No Way BA/AA” titles; Delta Tristar in Europe. That’s good vintage right there.

That sounds like a good variety but are there any dedicated viewing areas within the airports or outside like at Birmingham?
We are staying at the Luxor Hotel and i’ve seen it’s location can you get good views from there?

I’ve never been around the perimeter of EWR. I would suggest email one of the regular EWR photographers on a.net, and ask them. LAS has a few spots where you could stop on the road that runs parallel to rwy 25R/L to the South of it. Not too difficult to get there, especially if you are staying at the Luxor. Not sure what the street name is, but I can find out. As far as viewing from the Luxor? You can see planes taking off from a distance, provided you are staying on the East or South side of the pyramid, at least 20 floors up. If you have a 300mm+ zoom or strong binoculars, that would help. If you want to look at some stored aircraft, all you have to do is walk right across the street from the Luxor. There used to be more, but there is at least one UA DC-10 plus some narrowbodies. If you want more specific instructions, PM me and we’ll talk. Vegas is my 2nd home. I’d join you in there, but I’ll be in Europe at that time.

Do you know what the viewing facillities are like at Newark and Vegas if any and the range of aircraft at each one?

Very good variety at EWR. You have widebodies from Europe and a handful of Asian delights, like the SQ A345. You won’t see too many widebodies from U.S. carriers, except CO since they are based there.

As far as LAS goes, mostly narrowbodies, from Southwest and America West especially. UA is mostly TED there now, but DL sends quite a few 767’s (there were 3 there at once this last Sunday). You get the extremely occasional widebody from overseas like JL 747’s, Virgin 747, and Condor used to send a 767 once a week (Do they still do this?).

CO uses the 752 on several trans-atlantic routes. It has the range, and if it’s a thinner-route with not as much cargo, why not? AA also uses the 757 on a few trans-atlantic routes, I believe.

It’s rare to have opportunities to watch a freighter from the inside.

I worked for UPS for a month unloading the freighters at ONT. 😀

Nope. All the 2E terminal is closed.
    Which airlines ?

He’s flying the cheapest there was available at the time, Air France. He’s not willing to play a little more in order to fly Star Alliance, even though he’s a UA frequent flyer, as well. 😉 Granted my wife got a decent fare on Lufthansa (she’s not allowed to fly non-star carriers), but she’s arriving well before, and departing well after the Olympics are done.

Wings, and partial landing gear. Are those wings complete or are they missing the tips?

My brother is flying though CDG this summer. Are gates for LAX inbounds and ATH outbounds anywhere near the danger zone?

No problem mate. It’s easy and fast. You have signs everywhere to tell you where to go if you want to go from one terminal to the other.

Make sure you bring your hardhat.

The trouble with the A345 is, that it is so optimised for ultra long-range, that it won’t really fit into normal long-haul opetaions.

Exactly, which is why I’m still baffled by EK using it on the DXB-LGW run. If it’s surplus aircraft and they are just using it on a route just because, why not send it to LHR which is more prestigious, per se, than LGW?

It’s a very customised aircraft, like say the 764!

You’re probably right. However, which niche does the 764 serve, in a customized sense? Wouldn’t it be in the same categorie as say, an A330-300?

What was formerly Trans World Airlines that is only 10 letters? TWA originated as Transcontinental and Western Air.

Only Emirates I believe fly the A340-500 and Air Canada will finally introduce them soon.

SQ also does, SIN-LAX and soon to be SIN-EWR. Who knows when AC will finally take delivery of those and the -600’s.

Non-stop range to Sydney is all nice and well, but how many airlines fly to Sydney anyway? That’s not a lot and there are not enough passengers to make flights worthwhile for many airlines.

EgyptAir already flies to Sydney, via SIN I believe. If pax loads warranted a non-stop route, it could augment the existing one. It would also offer connecting pax an option to the rest of Europe, like to ATH for instance. EK takes advantage of pax from Australia connecting to both Cyprus and Greece.

Isn’t the only European airline to go to Australia these days British Airways and Lauda?

    That is correct.
