They claim that the delay is due to the lack of progress by certain airports in coping with the size of the 380 with Los
Angeles, in particular, being blamed
How dare they blame LAX! 😮 Currently, Virgin utilize Terminal 2 @ LAX along with NW, NZ, AC, and KL. Let’s say none of the existing 9 main terminals are retrofitted, the A380 will surely be accomodated at the Bradley remote terminal on the far west end of the airport. If anything, they would just park the A380’s out there and bus them to T2 as opposed to Bradley like the rest of the planes parked at the remote terminal have done to them. Again, this is assuming that they don’t retrofit (which I’m sure they will eventually) any of the 9 main terminal buildings.
Good questions, Jeanske. The newest aircraft in OA’s fleet has to be the A340. The oldest are the 737-200’s, but to my knowledge, all of these are parked. I’m really not sure what you mean by “being careful” in Greece. Are you referring to safety issues?
The fan blades are larger, there’s a contra rotating High pressure system in there which the 777 engine doesn’t have, that’s a new idea which leads to problems.
That makes sense, I was not aware of that. Thank you.
The 5th picture down is an Aegean/Cronus 734. Was it in there for maintanence, or was that one headed out to the desert, as well?
That is very nice. I’m assuming this is ex-KLM and will be operating Amsterdam-Surinam? (hey that rhymes!) :p
Those are essentially newer, moderately larger 777 engines. Why would they be having so many problems with them?
It was taken in 1996
That is all your reply should have consisted of, because that is all I was asking. The rest of your tirade is complete nonsense, and totally uncalled for. I shouldn’t even have to justify my previous post, but I will anyway. I was in no way criticizing your photos for being outdated, and I really don’t know why you took my question in that manner. Anytime someone posts a photo of Olympic, I always make a comment. You posted a photo of Olympic, a good one at that, and I noticed it was in the previous livery. I was just curious as to when it was photographed. THAT’S ALL!
By the way, thanks Sandy. You knew what I meant.
I wont be on here no for a couple of weeks to everyones relief…
The post was doing really well until this comment. Besides, if you behave yourself, like you have lately, we don’t care either way.
Just a few points I’d like to address.
AirlineOwner: UA doesn’t have that big of a European presence to begin with. Once upon a time they had 8 Euro destinations, which went down to 6 (DUS and MXP were canceled) shortly after 9/11, now back up to 7 with the re-introduction of the IAD-ZRH service that was discontinued in the mid-90’s. Along with the aforementioned ZRH, they also serve LHR, MUC, FRA, BRU, CDG, and AMS. So yeah, those are pretty much the ‘big airports.’ Furthermore, when you are partners with LH who are nicely situated at FRA with relatively short connections to most Euro-cities, you feed your pax through there.
Bmi-Star: DL serves 20+ cities in Europe, most of which originate from JFK. Every DL flight to Europe from JFK is a 763. The occassional 772 that makes Euro appearances originates in ATL. DL doesn’t have that many 772’s as it is, whereas they have bundles of 767’s.
by738: When did UA pull out of GLA because I have no recolection of this service.
Great pics once again. I had no idea that 2 planes could virtually fly side by side like that. Looks like N775UA makes quite a few appearances at LHR nowadays, flying to the East Coast and back. It is a non-ER 772 and wouldn’t be able to do the LAX or SFO runs.
Great display, Hans. Very intriguing and perhaps some place I would like to visit someday.
UA still has 777’s and 744’s parked. If US starts selling planes, I don’t think these A319’s will be the first to go. I’m sure they could find customers for their slightly older 733’s and 734’s and give them up for a nominal fee. Interestinly enough, when I was in Ft. Lauderdale a few weeks back and did some spotting, 90% of US’s operation in FLL (including the plane I flew with into there) was the 734. Why would these birds be circulating and much newer A319’s be parked up? Is it a capacity thing since the 734’s are bigger?
That’s fair enough. I was/still am very fond of UA’s Battleship grey scheme, as well. Had they replaced it with something terrrible, I would have been upset. We’ll still be seeing the grey birds for years to come. They grey scheme was introduced in 1992 and the old white scheme was still circulating more than 6 years later.
Hey! This is meant to be a Scottish airline, they are only providing the aircraft! 😉
I know. 😉 However the Air Greece titles just add to the flavour, seeing as they fly there, and all.
If only they’d ditch the ‘Greece Airways’ titles it would be even better!
NO!!! 😮
