Those are some cool pics and videos you’ve contributed the last couple of days, geovien. Feel free to contribute to the forum in areas other than Kai Tak, as well. I’m sure you have a lot to contribute. 🙂 I’ll be visiting Hong Kong, I’d say in 2005 or 2006, most likely summer of 2005. When is it considered ‘high season’ over there?
If it were a Bus, I don’t think fitting a new chute would take that long…if it’s a Boeing then I don’t know..perhaps they didn’t have one at hand
I’m sure in the bus, there is some sensor that automatically senses a deployed chute, and replaces it immediately. Why not? Everything else in it is done automatically, including landing in trees. :p
Where are the 2 crazy chaps that were actually serious about starting their own airline/s? 😮
Sorry been gone a while digging drainage ditches for the wifes new castle.
Sounds like fun! Also, when were the F-4’s based at ONT, Wrenchbender?
I agree, Dutchy. He is flying (no pun intended)! Looks like the landing at the end of “Airplane!” I don’t think the phrase from the name of the thread ‘is going to…’ applies to that last picture of the LH 747 but rather ‘already did…’ would be more appropriate. 😀
Don’t get me going about RR. They are the bottom of the big 3 engine makers.
Here’s proof to my testimony, Matthew, from a true line mechanic. Well said Wrenchbender. 😎
The 2nd of the first 4 took me a good 10+ minutes to download, and I have a pretty fast DSL connection. Don’t even bother if you don’t have broadband. The Korean one is very low quality and took less than 10 seconds to download.
Today we booked another trip to Brussels…
You and the hubby?
Varig does GRU-CDG-AMS, and I just found out recently that you can actually purchase a revenue ticket on the AMS-CDG portion for roughly 200Euro roundtrip. That might be a little pricey compared to the loco’s, but you get to fly on a 777. I’d be all over that. Pity you can’t do the same between AKL and SYD on TG or SYD-MEL on UA.
Shame you let yourself down with that last part!
Utterly impossible. Either it’s all correct, or none of it is. I’ll go by your first comment. 😀
How much more feasible is it for CX to do 2 one-stop services vs. 2 direct ones? Did they not used to serve MAN non-stop? Seeing as the continuation leg can never be full, a la UA’s continuing service to MEL from LAX-SYD (and they have 2 flights feeding 1).
You realise I’m only pulling you leg here?
But of course! You guys rule, unlike RR. 😎
Why did Boeing not offer the IAE V2500?
I don’t know, but it’s a good thing they didn’t. Look what happened with the whole “Superfan for the A340” debacle.
CFM’s are crap..put put put putttt
Ok, so now GE has essentially been thrown into the whole “RR rules and everybody else sucks” campaign. I was wondering what took so long. 😉
Will SXM be winter only or will it be running next summer? I wonder what aircraft they’ll use? Going by the other US airlines into SXM I’d say 752.
Just going by what the press release says, it seems like the service will start December and makes no mention of the it being seasonal, only that it will begin “in time for winter holiday travel.” At least, that’s what I gather from it. Being that it is only ‘weekly’ service (I’m assuming this means 1 day a week), I see no problem in sustaining service all year around, especially to the Caribean. The only reason there is a ‘slow’ season to the Carribean is because of potential hurricanes. I’m assuming the service will be a 757, but I wouldn’t rule out an A320 at the start, just to see how it goes. Hopefully, the day of the weekly flight will be Saturday, as that coincides with timeshare checkin/checkouts. DL’s one day a week service is on Saturday.
On a sidenote, nice to see ‘TED’ go international. They are really expanding the TED service, and particular Mexico destinations make sense as you don’t really need a business class cabin for these.
Also, you think an A340 Classic is a supercar?
Of course I don’t! I was just using your terminology.
