I just remembered another goofy occassion. I was flying SQ from AMS-SIN on a 777. Captain comes on the PA after boarding was complete saying something along the lines of the flight being heavy and they needed use of a runway that apparantly was closed. He then said the 2 options were 1) requesting the air traffic to allow them to use the runway or 2) unload some cargo to lighten the load up a bit. Two hours later, we take off and were not told which of the 2 options came to pass.
LH don’t even have PTV’s in their long haul fleet in economy!

What does this process entail?

But do BA need A380s?? I mean they wont buy just because AF, LH etc. did.
Sure they do, being based in a slot crowded airport like LHR. Slots could be better utilized using a couple a A380’s on high yield routes such as LHR-JFK, LHR-SYD, LHR-SIN, LHR-HKG, etc. Besides, BA couldn’t let all the other bigboys operate that behemoth without them doing so!

Wow, all those flights Greekdude! Do you have to commute or travel with work or summin? Or are you just generally a keen traveller?!
I do not travel for work as I am a Mathematics Instructor. I guess I am a keen traveller, as you describe it. Let’s just say that I rack up the frequent flyer mileage.

Wasn’t there a post recently where a BA exec was quoted as saying that they would not take delivery of the A380 or the 7E7?
You can’t do that unless they are posted on another website. Apparantly, with the forum upgrade, you will be able to do multiple attachments from your harddrive, as well.

Without doubt Lufthansa have the best PTVs in economy class.:D
I sense a little sarcasm here.
One time I was flying Air Canada out of YUL, and the flight was delayed about an hour due to ‘catering problems.’
One time I was flying America West into LAS, and the plane ‘arrived’ just fine, but then we had to wait about an hour at the gate because the jetway wasn’t working properly, and they couldn’t find an airstair to unload us that way.
SQ has a great PTV system in their fleet. I don’t know about economy, but when I flew their business class 2 years ago, these were some of the features: 10 inch screen, on demand video channels, and video games. I’m not sure of the specifics in terms of how many channels or how many games, but these were in the ‘old’ business clas, the Ultimo seats. Now the Spacebed should be fleet wide and I would imagine these to be slightly better. I will be flying SQ from EWR to AMS this July in business class, so I’ll be able to give an update on how the Spacebed is at that time.

I still say Concorde would be impractical for freighter use… because of the position of the wings, you couldn’t install a side door, so any cargo carried in the cabin (as opposed to the luggage compartment) would have to be loaded through the pax doors, one item at a time, and by hand. You’d surely lose any time gained in flight by having to load the aircraft this way. Plus the Additional cost of fuel, and I really think the whole FedEx idea wasn’t thought through and was totally stillborn.
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Nobody moans at you Skylinerworld, we’re just trying to help you out. You should shut up and listen once in a while rather than firing back.

Isn’t NWA the airline operating the oldest fleet in the US?
Yes, if you consider all the majors. Probably by a longshot. They still have DC-9’s, DC-10’s, and 747 classics. They even still operate a few 727’s as sports charters.

And for that matter, what airliner currently carrying pax is now the fastest? Does the 747 retake this title? Or the 777? or perhaps the A340.
The 744 is faster than the 777 and A340.
