Poliocretes has there been any sign of Hamas fielding sophisticated anti tank systems recently?
Kornets for the past two years, fired one at an Israeli school bus.
That A-4 is not bombing Gaza, it’s dropping leaflets. That’s about as combative as IAF A-4s get these days.
No Israeli F-16 was shot down in Gaza. A rocket most certainly did not land 200 meters from the American embassy – no rockets have actually hit Tel Aviv. Three missed, one was intercepted. No Israelis were injured when rockets landed in an open field near Jerusalem. The “the Iron Dome missile shield has only intercepted one-fifth of the rockets fired from the Gaza Strip” line is true, but only if you discount the fact that Iron Dome only attempts to intercept missiles calculated to be headed into populated areas. It’s success rate actually stands at about 90%.
Press TV is run and funded by the Iranian government. Don’t get your news from it.
I spent the day in Beer Sheba today. 8 times the sirens went off, 8 times we scrambled for shelter, and 8 times we heard distant explosions. Yet no one was hurt. Iron Dome got them all. On our way back north we chanced to see Iron Dome missiles take out another barage targetting Ashdod (where an earlier barrage managed to get one missile through, a residential building in the city taking a direct hit), the system’s Tamir missiles looking like red streaks shooting up into the sky, only to end in small flashes. An amazing sight really.
The IDF official website lists 81 successful Iron Dome intercepts in the current round of fighting. here’s a fascinating movie from Beer Sheba, showing a volley of rockets going out from Gaza and the Iron Dome intercepts of at least several:

Israeli air defense commander steps down

Unrelated, Gavish’s successor was already named back in June.
Hizbullah is under pressure because of its involvement in Syria and the growing calls in Lebanon to disarm it. It feeds on perceived tensions between Israel and Lebanon and therefore tries to foster them. It also serves to remind Israel that Iran’s proxies are on its northern border, ready to do battle on its behalf should someone strike Iran’s nuclear installation. Iran has never been shy to fight Israel to the last Lebanese drop of blood.
There’s no doubt it’s Iraqi, as you can see Iraq’s triangular emblem at the base of the tail.
If it’s Syrian MiG-29s you want, you’ll find them here.
Phantom vs. MiG-17
Syria has a rather large, but outdated air defense network. Around 130 sites. It’s a question of how many standoff PGM’s would Turkey be able to deploy, since their A2G weaponry is more advanced than Syria’s SAM systems. However, due to sheer number of SAM units, plus the early warning capability of S-200, only full scale attack would suffice.
Again, I don’t think Turkey will do it. Certainly, there are hot-heads in Ankara that would support military option, however USA won’t allow it (not yet, anyway), and the public opinion is strongly against.
Beating Syria’s dense air defenses is more than a matter of mere weapons. You need doctrine, tactics, appropriate C4W and proper aircrew training and preparation. It’s best to remember that Israel’s success against Syria’s air defenses in 1982 was the culmination of a decade-long process. I am not entirely sure the TuAF is entirely up to the task, certainly not by itself. Has it been preparing for such a scenario?
Israel should never have formed where it did in the first place. I am all for the Jewish state but the location was not ideal, it was easy and Neither western Europeans nor Russians wanted to deal with the return of displaced Jews after WW2.
If not “there” then where?
Sure, he had. It was your homework to look for it before you started this argument..
