there is little chance this camo will be chosen…but anyway :

Last Monday, a mirage 2000C was scrambled to intercept and help a Russian Su-27 which had a radio failure (The plane was not responding to the french ATC).
The su-27 was going to Le Bourget airport (for the air show). Eventualy, the mirage guided the Russian plane to the military Air Base of Creil where it landed safely.
That’s hospitality ๐

yes, that was an emergency bombing.
bad french ๐
There is no doubt that Typhoon impressed the RSAF more than any other type in the form they were shown.
Doing what ? high G barrel rolls with amraam and sidewinders ? amraam BVR simulation ?
Cute but Singapore was expecting a bit more ground stuff, like heavy load manoeuvering, ground following capability, cruise missile and guided weapons integration, radar ground modes etc.
You know what ? I’m happy because I’ve just found my first inflight eurofighter picture with LGB ๐

If you have more of them, I’m interested.
The one sure thing about Singapore is that Typhoon was not kicked out on radar performance.
May be but the rafale and Boeing teams were able to show concrete stuff about their AESA radar projects and the Air to ground capapabilities of their jets.
Ok, let’s forget our national pride for a while…
This Dassault commercial is crap and arrogant, we can all agree with that.
But may be the target is not the eurofighter nor the Su-35 ?
What about the F-35 ? IMHO, Dassault is far more concerned by the JSF than the Eurofighter.
Both the Rafale and the Eurofighter are now short on time to secure export orders before the arrival of the JSF. That is the main reason why Dassault and the french government are pushing hard the rafale development since 2002. The Eurofighter consortium should do the same if they don’t want to be overwelmed by the the JSF Tsunami.
The problem is that 2 nations of the EF consortium also have interests in the JSF…
1- Ok, thanks. I assume this hole has been filled by now ๐
2- it’s you who have started the comparison between the rafale F1 and the F-8, not me.
Now you, you bring the SHar and the F-18 on the table… fine, but the rafale M F1 is still far more powerfull and has far more range than the SHar : 8 mica + 3*2000 L fuel tanks…this is only a dream for a SHAr.
The F/A-18C is closer in AA, but whether you like it or not, the rafale M has a more modern radar and small RCS.
Yes, the curent rafale M F1 are single role..but at least they are in service since 2001-2002 unlike the “single role” eurofighter T1 which has just received (not sure) her clearance to use the AIM-120B.
3-
Rafale’s development has not been held up by Quadrinational wrangling.
I’m sorry for that but it is not Dassault’s fault. Wake up ! the eurofighter team has twice more test aircrafts, twice more money, twice more engineers but they are still 3 years behind the small rafale team who also has to make carrier trials…
Captor already outperforms RBE (as the Singaporeans found out)
Well, if you say so…
My bad, I had forgoten that Singapore had kicked the rafale out of the contest because its ESA radar was inferior to the mechanical captor.
and you’d have to be an incurable optimist (or French) to believe that Rafale F2 will have anything like the DASS. And then you come to the MMI, where Rafale is at least half a generation behind what Typhoon has now.
Well, yes, I’m French :p
What about you ? Are you British or an incurable optimist ? ๐
haven’t the Saudis aligned behind a huge order ?
not yet ๐
I thought it was at least ten years late, and that they’d found a โฌ1.5 Bn hole in the funding?
yes 10 years late according to the 1988 plan which was canceled after the callapsing of the USSR. Do you have a link about your โฌ1.5 billion hole ?
I thought that the only Rafales in current operational service were the Aรฉronavale’s F1 standard jets, and that they offer little real improvement over the F-8 Crusader – carrying only Magic, Mica, and a refuelling pod?
Little improvment ? the crusader were totaly oudated with only magic 2, guns and very poor radar. Rafale + RBE-2 + mica + spectra is another world. one rafale F1 is more dangerous than 6 F-8 at least.
I thought that the RAF, the Germans, the Spanish and the Italians all got their single-seat Typhoons before last Friday, when the Armรฉe de l’Air got its first single-seater?
The french got their first rafale M in 2000 :p
BTW, The rafale C you are talking about is a F2 plane which has far more capabilities than the T1 eurofighters delivered to Spain, Italy, UK and Germany.
I thought that most of the clever stuff wouldn’t happen unless and until they got an export customer who would help pay for it?
Could you be more specific ? What stuff are you talking about ?
Come on, this is pure Dassault commercial crap, I agree, but the fact remains that the rafales built and delivered now are true multirole fighters. Moreover, The rafales F3 are funded AND ordered.
What about the Eurofighter deliveries ? Only T1 planes… No T3 order yet…
So, Brasil will be the first export custumer of the RDI radar.
IMHO, it is a wise decision if you keep in mind that Brasil was looking for the cheapest fighter possible.
The Su-27 is fine but still very expensive to maintain and operate. Moreover, I’m very suspicious about the quality of russian planes built in the 80ies. This is a known fact that Sukhoi has made huge improvements in its production processes after the mid 90ies. Therefore a pre-1995 su-27 is not exactly the same as a post-1995 flanker.
The music is absolute, total crap.
indeed ๐ฎ
great pictures ! ๐
Also I heard very often, for example FlugRevue that French industry paid 25% of Rafale R&D, whereas your figure is only government R&D so it might well appear less, but in fact it might be very similar.
The โฌ10.1 billion figure is the total (it’s 10.14 actually)
French government : โฌ8.35 billion
Industry : โฌ1.79 billion
For the Typhoon development, I must admit it’s very difficult to get an accurate figure because each country has more or less its own version with different capabilities
