    RE: Pic Of The Day-Gorgeous!!

Ah, Sir, I’m afraid I’m gonna have to disagree with you on that one.

The most lovely ‘gal’ out there has to be this bird:

However, if we’re talking the Queen of the Skies, the 747 wins, hand down 🙂

I know everyone’s going to dis-agree with me, when I say that the World Tails were actually quite good looking. Oofff course, some of the tails were horrible, but some of them DID looks quite nice to me (like the ‘India’ tail, Water dreaming, Nalanji Dreaming, Wunala Dreaming) – I mean, it shoed a kind of bond between BA and it’s destinations.

As for why they put the ‘Denmark/Wings’ tail on their 747’s, I have no clue, but hey, I’m a Dane, so I can’t complain 😀

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-04-02 AT 00:25 AM (GMT)]Airline and Aircraft type required

First on looks like a DHL 727 to me (It’s the nose)

Second one is definantly a Atlas Air 747 – I don’t think they operate other types (please correct me if they do – I know they operate aircrafts for other carriers). And if it ain’t, it’s a Highland Express 741 (long shot though :D)

Last one looks like on the 737 Special schemes from the US, but which one?

Yes, Qantas retired their last 747SP a few weeks ago (on March 4th), and it flew via HNL to Tucson.

LAST EDITED ON 04-10-01 AT 02:58 PM (GMT)[p]Hmm.. Being TOTALLY non-knowing of the residential situation (ie. if there’s a surplus of houses or not) in the London area, I start to wonder what even made them (the complainters) move to the Heathtrow area in the first place.

Also, I think that the airliners do what they can, in order to reduce noise.

BTW, I think I saw a good response in one of the older Airliner World magazines, just after the case had started.

    RE: Overreaction regarding safety measures?

The problem, I think, with the US airport security seemed to be, and please correct me if I’m wrong, that all gate personel washired & paid by the airliners, and not the local authorities/airport.
This could lead to doubts about the quality of their training etc., especially considering that their European colleagues get twice as much in pay + they’re hired by the local authoroties.

Ok, so that’s number 4 that has started an A330 aircraft! 🙂

    RE: A315`S FOR AIRTOURS???

Could it be an A310-500? Stupid question yes, but the Boeings have had their named shortened for some time (you know, to save types on the keyboard. The warranty only goes to 100,000 strokes pr. button 😀 )

    RE: The airlines/aircraft involved

One of the KBOS-KLAX planes, the one that crashed outside Pittsburg, was in fact a 747, it has been shown on CNN as a 4 engine A/C.

Hmm.. This one can’t top it at ALL but I though I might as well mention it:

Coming home from a 5 month study stay in Australia, I found myself at Frankfurt/Mainz, after flying Sydney-Seoul, waiting 6 hours in Kimpo (very boring if you ask me), and then flying a daylight flight to Frankfurt.

The problem was: I had originally been shceduled to fly to Zurich the next day, so I was stranded in Frankfurt on the lookout for Korean Airs check-in counter. Anyway, after entering & leaving Germany 3 or 4 times (no kidding!) I finally found it, and while they were sorting it out,I could see how the plane with all my friends on it, taxiing from the stand to the runway and taking off. I was |–| this close to break down, ‘coz all I just wanted was to go home & sleep! Mind you, this was after nearly 30 hours without sleep, as I find it quite difficult to sleep on airplanes.

RE: which is the best airport

    Awww..

Noone has even mentioned Kastrup Copenhagen yet!

Well, as far as the airport itself goes, it’s rather large and nice, though things CAN get messy during certain periods (read: start/beginning of school holidays). The addition of the new 3rd terminal (quite nice, actually! has eased the pressure as well as giving EKCH a bit of an arcitectural side. Once Air-side, you’ll find HUGE panorama windows, so you’ll be watching the planes arrive and depart from their stands (the runways are a bit far off). As far as walking distances are concerned: Well, the furthest gates takes some 5-10 minutes to walk (another plus here, it’s gently downhill 🙂

On landside, you have to go to the notorius ‘Flyvergrillen’ – ‘The Flyers Barbie’, but that’ll secure some good shots of runway 22/04 (R & L that is) which is the main runways. You can also get some great shots from the northern side of the Airport, as a road passes it.

On a sidenote, I live som 20 miles out of the ILS path for ruway 12 (I think), so I do get the occasional B737 over my house. Only downside is that runway 12/30 is the crosswind runway, so it’s only 5% or so of the EKCH traffic that uses that airport.

Yeah, I know of those at Flightsim.com, but a lot of them aren’t really realistic, since they contains maybe 4 or 5 points long the way.

RE: SAS is having bad luck

So far, the following incidents have occured:
    – One machine was damaged in a hail-storm (litereally, the nose cone was pierced!)
    – A 767 had to go back to after departure from Singapore, because some instruments displayed that the tail stabilizer was malfuncitoning.
    – One machine had to make an emergency landing, because the passengers reported of a kerosene smell in the cabin.

I’ll returnonce I found the article that summorised the incidents.
