Thank you David. What rank is he? What are his collar insignia? Do you know what squadron he was with?
I think I would like a little longer skid on that Potez.
Thanks, my dad was a repatriated POW.

So, U.S.Army helicopters were named after native American tribes? – I guess we can forgive Sikorski’s R-4 Hoverfly as it was the first.
However the follow-on R-5 Dragonfly – was that a British only name?
Were there any other helicopters named after insects?Roger Smith.
I don’t think the U.S. Army used this aircraft unless you want to count the U.S.A.A.F.
And also most of their fixed wing aircraft such as the Ute, Mohawk, Seminole, Huron, etc.
However, I canoot find any trace of Native Indian tribes called Bird Dog, Beaver or Otter 🙂
Beavers and Otters are de Havilland aircraft made in Canada and named after Canadian animals. The Bird Dog was named by Cessna employees.
Seems fair, though the Tarhe isn’t strictly named after a tribe either.
Wiki.
Tarhe (1742–1818) was a leader of the Wyandot people in the Ohio country. His nickname was “The Crane”.[1] He fought European-American expansion into the region until the Western Indian Confederacy was defeated at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794. Afterwards, he sought accommodation with the United States.
So every other US Army helicopter is named after a tribe, but this one is named after a wind, which is also the name of a tribe. Right.
The wind Chinook is named after the Chinook tribe of Indians.
My Chinook experiences can be read under “Helicopter Recovery at this site. https://davidelsblog.wordpress.com/
