Excellent Paul. Thanks. I will PM you my e mail address and take you up on the offer of a higher resolution scan.
David, you could try the 578 Association Facebook page.
I went to that page but could not figure out how to post there!
Thank you Paul.
I am hopeful someone can provide me with a photograph of P/O Jack Smith crew member of 578 Squadron Halifax MZ511 that was shot down by a night fighter piloted by Major Martin Drewes 20/21 July 1944 on operations to Bottrop.
Jack Smith was a POW with my father and is one of 51 prisoners named in my father’s POW “Wartime Log.” https://wallyswar.wordpress.com/pow-log/
I am attempting to fine a photograph of each of the 51 prisoners in the log book. So far I have got 33 and am hopeful one of Jack Smith will turn up. My efforts so far can be seen here. https://wallyswar.wordpress.com/other-pows/
Thanks Matt
Matt thanks for the information. Very interesting. Unfortunately this is part of the war that I am not familiar with. Where is Halverson? I know where Lydda is.
Peter Gurnell added.
I was able to add two photographs of Gordon Jack today.
Up to your usual standard of excellence Gary.
Here is a picture of the panel on my 1940 Cub.
Thanks lanc35. My father was the Wireless Operator of this aircraft and I am trying to determine exactly what is written (scrawled) down.
So far I have got W/O reported that rear portion of a/c was on fire. This must have damaged elevator controls because a/c plunged.
No response over intercom to bale out order. B/A. F/E. and W/O. baled out of front escape hatch.
I had not picked up on the Monica portion, thanks.
Thanks Ross.
Thanks Ross. Could you please explain that in layman’s terms.
Bumping this one up again in the hope someone can answer my query.
Thanks, David
