I see both mgazines have photos of the Barracuda wreckage laid out… Lots of large bits there, but equally some large bits missing!

The only casualty I can find at Fradley was on 25.6.41 and is Joachim Schwarz who was a He 111 pilot other 3 crew bailed out. It appears local residents objected to him being moved to Cannock Chase

There are 9 German WW2 Casualties in Bath Haycombe Cemetary including 2 Soldiers

One was on 17.6.41 Unteroffizer Heinz Berwig in He 111 6N-CH wk num 5462

4 on 1.11.43 – Walter Overhoff, Kurt Reckin , Karl Heinz Siegler and Karl Weisskamp

1 on 15.3.44 Hans Schonleitner

1 on 24.4.44 Helmet H Trauwald

Details on actual incidents always appreciated

I Not all buried at Cannock Chase

e.g.

6.12.39 Oberfeldwebel (Flt Sgt) Emil Rödel, 29. Crew member oFHeinkel He 115 float-plane (wk nr 2081, coded S4+BL) is buried at Great Bircham (St Mary) Churchyard, Norfolk, England. War Graves Plot 1 Row 1 Grave 4.

I seem to recall not all buried at Cannock Chase. I have a file somewhere which lists all German airman graves in care of CWGC. also some from WW 1 but I need a date or name to look it up

I have just witnessed the amazing and historical flight of 10 Spitfires taking off in pairs from Westhampnett ( commonly known as Goodwood) airfield..

Are you in 1940 ?? 😀

I don’t know what they will find, but this original report in my collection seems to indicate most was recovered – although I wish Geoff Nutkins well in his endeavours!

I did not read the report like that.. Why dig it dwon 15 feet when no body to recover ? They say tail and and tail wheel being ‘the only parts recovered’ which of course would be near top!

seems to me contractor may have just cut corners and box ticked…

BTW according to Messerschmitt Bf 109B C D E in Luftwaffe & Foreign Service this was first E-8 lost in Battle of Britain
