“What seems to be being missed here is that anyone joining the RN and serving in W.W.II would have been aware that there was a chance he would be lost at sea in his ship (or aircraft) and that RN policy was to leave them in these war graves unless there was compelling reasons to do otherwise. If they had been recovered at sea, at the time, then they would expect burial at sea, as a rule. Their next of kin would, then be fully aware of that policy, as it was common knowledge given the rich heritage of the RN in Britain. “
Agreed… But in this case they are in an inland lake not the sea! and as such it is different..if there aircraft had crashed on the lake shore then there bodies would have been recovered.,. They could then have either been buried in a grave or at sea… I note that there ARE Royal Navy personnel buried in CWGC Cemetaries in Maine USA
