I don’t know about other people but I was suprised what a big aeroplane the Storch is up close.

I fly a Piper Cub and a Chipmunk (not at the same time !!) and was suprised when I saw it at Old Warden. It looks like a fair old climb up to the cockpit, although the Vis looks amazing from that glass area over the long nose and downwards.

I have a great deal of respect for the German pilots who flew Mussolini off a mountain top and Hanna Reitsch who flew one into Berlin in 45 and landed in a street at the Tiergarten. A big aeroplane into a small space – awesome.

If Mr Holloway is reading this – I’d love a trip sometime 🙂

I always think the Safir looks like a lovely aeroplane but what a strange undercarriage – why so short and squat – surely this must increase the risk of prop strike…………

I think once the gear is up the aircraft just looks ‘right’ – what do other people think ??

    cheers

This is a great book – I really enjoyed it – and even better – it’s available on Audio too !!

I think his setting of the scene and the mood in 1939/40 was just terrific.

In line with most people on here I thought:

    • Good Programme concept
    • Too short to do the subject justice
    • Content a bit lightweight
    • Having

focussed on the human element they did not follow the human element up well enough

    Just my 2 cents worth…………..

So the similar sort of damage could have been done and even with a loss rate the same as heavy bombers 5 aircrew could have been saved….. ??
