and sort of aviation related – ‘The Paras’ from BBC
Arc
Yes to the point of using the description “Taliban” rather than “Enemy” or “Hostile” ………….. why is that ??
There is a bit about Hugh Beresford including some pictures in the book ‘The Battle of Britain – Then and Now’.
Arc
Also missing from You Tube now – the excellent documentary about Billy Drake ‘Billy and The Fighter Boys’ – the bit at the cemetery where he visits the Grave of F/O Leslie Clisby (his roommate) always seems to coincide with a bit bit of dust in my eye…………..
If anyone has a link to that I’d appreciate it.
I’m a fan of Kenneth McDonough. But then I would be as I’ve got 3 of his originals in the family (2 x Oils & 1 x Watercolour of WW1 aircraft – Camels, Brisfits and Nieuports).
Ken was the ‘Artist Airfix forgot’ for me as he did some of the early box art for the kits but people only remember Roy Cross (also a highly talented artist- don’t get me wrong) – Ken never got the credit he deserves. Many of his originals were commissions for Shell and Air BP.
I’ve also got a small watercolour of Hurricanes by an Artist called ‘Roffey’ but he seems harder to track down…………

I think it is ‘Darky Gilkes’ not Giles – don’t have my copy to hand at the moment
Massively off track – I preferred the earlier Mosquito kit as it was easy to make albeit it not a very accurate representation of the real thing, the later Airfix Mossie did not fit together at all well but was a better representation of the real thing – I think Airfix re-issued the earlier version…………….due to public demand 🙂
Yeah I love the Anson too !
My earlier remark wasn’t about NZ Operating the Heavies – I was just saying that the sight & sound on the Lanc or B17 is awesome from a crowd perspective……………..
Arc
and actually the acoustics of engine noise trapped in the mountains around Wanaka – well just great
I always enjoy the Wanaka display – really great scenery, superb weather usually and lovely aircraft.
I always think the only thing missing are ‘heavies’ which are in short supply in NZ and Oz displays.
It’s a great pity but I understand why.

I have seen this several times.
Finally came to the conclusion that Darryl Greenameyer was an egotistical idiot. He underestimated the task involved, he tried to do it on the cheap and cost peoples lives in doing so.
The project could have been tackled in so many different ways – the way he did it would have been the last option on the list.
Terrible waste.

Several things:
1. Access is not necessarily through the dairy farm – I turn right and then go down the runway side. No problem.
2. Access – the fear is travellers. The gate is locked to prevent them and to keep the farmer happy. If we are operating then ring the number on the website – we’ll come and let you in
3. Surface. The main part of the runway has been resurfaced and is smoother than most you find.
4. Airspace is not a problem – we are outside Norwich zone even after the massive (and unnecessary) airspace grab. Not sure what conflicts you are mentioning.
5. Aggressive locals – unsure who that may be, most of the people seem OK. I’ve had equally hostile receptions at various airfields. You have to speak as you find…………….
hopefully this sets the record straight.
Fly in for a visit. We don’t bite, honest……………….. Circuits to the North side please

Hi Dornier
I’m in a similar position to you with my aircraft. Looked good on the surface (flew it for a year) but digging deeper found innumerable small problems which all cost money.
I ended up categorising them as:
1. Mandatories (in my case a 7 year propellor inspection and a reweigh plus some fuel plumbing and an exhaust problem)
2. Really should do these………….(some fabric repairs and a few minor items)
3. Cosmetics – it needs a repaint and recover shortly – but not right now (just means she looks as tatty as your average GA aeroplane in the UK !)
4. Never gonna happens – flashy GPS, slimline parachutes, new electric variometer…………
Once I’d got my head around it like that it was OK……………..
You want pain – read this thread over on pprune:
Enjoy your flying !! – we are all a long time dead as my old boss used to say………
cheers

I think it looks cheap and tacky. 🙂
I also think it’s not old old maybe 1960’s ??

I thought ‘Billy and the Fighter boys’ was a great programme – hope they reshow it………
