Dassault becoming more and more desperate. My bet is that the Iraq “offer” is a way to pressure Kuwait and Saudi to buy the jet.

With no new planes (other then domestic orders) as time goes on more and more buyers will be looking at next generation planes.

They have completely screwed up. Everyone with cash is going with the F-35, those with less cash going with the Gripen.

The Typhoon clears up everything else, nothing left for the French………

How much dose a F-16 MLU cost and what do you get for the money. And have the Jordanian F-16 A/B’s had any upgrade work done

You can use Google for the F-16 MLU info.

Regarding the RJAF birds, yes they have been upgraded by TAI to MLU standard (unsure what MLU tape).

Many thanks for the response Mountain….what you say about the Chinese angle does sound all too plausible sadly. It just struck me that Gabbiano qualification would’ve been quite an enabler for those flying Falco and it surprised me that there were no reports of a take-up. If the Pakistani’s are looking elsewhere, for their own reasons, that would answer a part of it at least.

Even Italian tech has its limitations. Their own air force has aqquired Reaper and Predator from the US, and I imagine there will be pressure not to sell weaponised drones to Pakistan (ironic considering they gladly sell Sniper equipped F-16 Block 52s).

Inevitably China will produce a Reaper equivelent, just a question of when.

Are the Pakistan Air Force still manufacturing Falco UAV’s does anyone know?. If so is it known if they are they looking at shifting up to the Evo version….with the integration work completed with the Gabbiano T-series radars it looks like Falco/Gabbiano could be a seriously useful marpat capability for the Gulf approaches?.

Unsure Jonesy. It looks like UAV dev planes in Pakistan have somehow been effected by the whole “US Drone strike” debate. For ego and political reasons Pakistan is desperately seeking weaponised UAVs. Think Italy is reluctant or does not have the tech in helping Pak weaponise the Falco (I agree it is a great platform), and the armed forces are veering towards Chiinese solutions. This may see the end of any new Falcos being manufactured on top of what has already been ordered.

On a side note, the navy did go operational withe the NESCOM Barraq UAV just last year

Yup, that or just shipping them off to TAI for the MLU. 150 odd F-16s and 150 JF-17s makes a cost effective force with a decent punch, especially if they can order more Sniper pods and EW suites.

So AFM say that the first 5 Jordanian F-16’s which include 3 A’s & 2 B’s where delivered on the 27th of April and on the same day 19 Sqn stood up as a F-16 unit looks like the PAF may be looking to do with F-16 what they did with Mirage 111

Yes, absolute no brainer for the PAF. They have large numbers of aircrew and engineers and new bases. More cheap F-16 MLUs are perfect and gives a relatively big punch for little outlay.

Scorpene submarines to join fleet without torpedoes

    http://ajaishukla.blogspot.in/2014/05/scorpene-submarines-to-join-fleet.html

Of 14 submarines in the fleet, three Russian Kilo-class vessels are unavailable: INS Sindhurakshak was destroyed in a cataclysmic explosion in Mumbai last August; INS Sindhuratna will take a year to repair after a fire in February. A third, INS Sindhukirti, was scuttled by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, Visakhapatnam (HSL), which dismantled the submarine for refit in 2006 but cannot put it back together again.

    What the!?

I’m not debating the right or wrongs of what they buy and from whom, but your above statement contradicts your first post on the subject. You know admit they will be more USequipment in all likleyhood after saying there will be no more US deals after Iraq bought Russian equipment.

You can see how you have contradicted your right?

    er……

    DSCA NOTIFICATION!!!

Just like the ones before! It is simply a “notification of interest” and gives congress 30 days or something to block it. As it says on the links themselves.

Once you get a DOD contract, then you have the actual CONTRACT and the “real” value 😉

You will be able to find the ACTUAL CONTRACTS here. http://www.defense.gov/contracts/archive.aspx

no 175 Abrams, no 200 Bradleys, no 50 NBC strykers, no 16 AB412s ever got contracted despite their DSCA notifications… so lets see if any of these DSCA notifications ever become actual contracts. I wonder if russia can offer anything in lieu of the AT6C texans? because sadly the IAI/Elbit electronics and systems preclude the purchase of super tucanos. If only a “new” SU25 variant was in production 🙁

    Dude

Calm down and easy with the happy faces.

I know what a DSCA notification is, and did read it all. However, you say there is no deal on the cards regarding more US equipment. Would Iraq or the DSCA make these requests if there was no Iraqi interest in aqquiring these weapons? We surely assume there must be, and as this is obviously after the Russian arms deals, it proves that your assumption that further deals are not on the cards is simply not true. Should the contracts for the notifications get signed then you will have proven to be wrong and by the looks of things, the above notifications indicate there is still very strong interest in Iraq purchasing more weaponry.

I would say the real “telling” thing is that Iraq has not signed ANY major arms deal with the US since the deals with Russia.

So although the Iraqis did make “DSCA enquiries” for the purchase of 175 Abrams tanks, 200 Bradleys, 24+6 Ah64E apaches, 50 NBC Strykers, 16x MEDEVAC AB-412s and others… already since last year, not a single actual contract has been signed. The horrendous operational readiness of the Abrams tanks allied with the almost deliberate dumb training to ensure that the Iraqis shell out billions in support contracts, it has finally dawned on the Iraqis how much they’re getting shafted…

    Er……..

As of now though the spec for the Jags is pretty basic right? No PGM or all weather capability?
