NORA โ€“ ACTIVE ELECTRONICALLY SCANNED ARRAY

NORA โ€“ ACTIVE ELECTRONICALLY SCANNED ARRAY

Ericssonโ€™s future airborne radar is Not Only a Radar, NORA, ๐Ÿ˜€ but also a complete electronic warfare system including jamming and data communication. The new radar will use an Active Electronically Scanned Array, AESA, built up with approximately 1000 individual transmit/receive modules. The antenna, mounted on a single-axis platform, will give well over 200หš coverage in azimuth. NORA will offer superior performance by virtue of a number of core capabilities at Ericsson โ€“ beam agility, beam widening, multi-channel processing, target-specific waveforms and low radar cross-section.

    robban,

    check this post >> http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=706635&postcount=36

Early LCA concepts incorporated canards just like the Gripen – the BAe P.106 served as the stepping stones for both. Extensive consultation with Dassault, BAe, LM(F-16XL design team) and MBB in addition to inhouse wind tunnel testing took the LCA’s design far ahead of the P.106’s canard layout and resulted in the design you can see today.

The Gripen however appears to be essentailly a completed P.106.

A note from official ADA print material :

Interestingly, with the Tejas, the original design called for canards as a possible configuration. However, once the cranked, compound hybrid delta design was optimized, ADA was extremely happy with the result, and canards were dropped – as they did not offer any advantage or enhance manoverability in the Tejas’s design configuration.

Looks like the radar is AESA..

I did ask about that and was told that it would be AESA ๐Ÿ™‚

Confirmed what? More details would help..

If Thales said they have supplied Master-T to India, they are correct..there is at least one Master-T in IAF service..but the question is ..

Are there Master-xx (which version?) to be used with the Indian ABM system?
Do these come with technoilogy transfer to be manufactured in india and with source codes etc?

Thats what I am wondering about..

I dont know about the exact version number, for I did not ask about it. What i did get confirmed was that the “recently sold” Master series radar was used with the recent Indian ABM test. It was also explicitly mentioned to me that its performance was “much better” than Green Pines in posession with India. I did not ask about tech transfer, source codes etc..

Infact several months back there were news articles on the proposed sale of Thales master series radars for use with India’s indigenous ABM systems.

I have russias national aerospace magazines, and a fulcrum magazine got from mig stalls.

    the names are,
    take-off
    mig 29 fulcrum

    which one??.

Neither. The one i am talking about is called “Phazotron Information and Analytical Magazine – Special Issue”. The front cover has a pic of the Mig-29(er.. 35) performing a high AoA manuver and also has a big picture of the Zhuk-AE in the top left.

AFAIK the LCA’s sustained turn rate is ~17-18deg/sec and its instantaneous turn rate is ~30deg/sec.

Where did you get those numbers

Who know the specification of Phazotron FGA01-01 Zhuk-MAE?

I have obtained a 40 page Phazothron information & analytical journal on that very radar. I’ll post a scan shortly. ๐Ÿ™‚

For now, i only have a terribly taken pic of an infoboard of the radar :

    some Israeli stuff

    The 2052 AESA :
    http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/7296/dscn0129nq6.jpg

    Python-5 and the Derby
    http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/3180/dscn0133yx8.jpg

    ..Barak, Spice, etc ..
    http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1861/dscn0130sn6.jpg

… Laser designation and electro-optical reconnaissance pods
    http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/1169/dscn0134gg9.jpg

Despite the cool stuff, the guys manning the Israeli stalls IMHO were by far the most unfriendly, unhelpful and arrogant of them all. In addition to this, the entire Israeli pavillion had exclusive additional security guys from Israel, who never ceased to annoy people …. elbowing, pushing people when more than half a dozen people assembled near an Israeli stall; ever suspiciously scanning things like those secret service folks and acting overly silly …

Thanks again for these pictures, Deino ๐Ÿ˜€

Deino, your attention to detail is awe inspiring http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/images/icons/icon14.gif

… yes, i did take another look at it today and there was nothing there …no IRST or anything like that …. strange and weird indeed.

    cheers.
