Hi All,
I am afraid this is just related to DX itself and I am more than likely very late to the party.
I just heard the LWM is to close, this news alongside the development on site of the airfield of a Hilton Hotel development going up (Below Image) Add this to the news of one or two larger airframes being moved outside has shocked me.
As for demolishing then rebuilding another structure what is that all about why not just develop what you already have, seems to me politics is creeping into spheres it really has no business being or are whoever trying to control the narrative ?
Could all this be a slow stealthy way of decommissioning of the airfield in a few more years ? It seems IMPO that whatever government is in power it is those who stay on through government changes that really control the country and it’s finances.
The only real changes are to the budgets they are given and what savings they should then target to secure that budget no matter what the cost, only the fact they do well and keep their jobs or am I to cynical ? IMPO bureaucrats only seek to bin what they deem as wasteful expenditure ? then persuade whoever it’s a good idea to jump on their band wagon.

Hi All,
Have contacted seller to ask about anymore tools with FB prefix.
Thinking outside the box with this thought below !!!
Being that several engine manufacturers where competing to power various aircraft is it possible they would have tried to get hold of whatever engine manuals and the like to see what the competition was up to ?
If so would it be possible that these manuals etc. etc. would have just got shelved and kept or binned once they realised they were either behind or ahead of the game ?
If they kept them is it theoretically possible that these companies who went on to lead the way today have these manuals etc. etc. still in their archives just gathering dust ?
Geoff.
Hi All,
BF6 – Any use ? I assume that some of the links below you may have already tried or think they are not of any value ? The way I look at it is they may have leads that your normal channels do not it’s worth a try at least isn’t it ?
Dumb question time again!:- I assume that all the Museums and Airforces / Air Engineering services across the globe who used Hercules engines when donating or getting rid of them they gave all the engineering manuals along with them ?
If this was the case:- What has happened to all these manuals that where possibly gifted to museums ? Surely there must be at least one still in the museums archives or do museums just dump everything when out of date ?
Could it be a case of whomever asked to find the info couldn’t be arsed to do a physical search just on the off chance ? A case of rather look at a PC screen and go with that and just say they where thrown away for easiness ?
Another thing that astonishes me is the lack or apparent lack of cooperation between all the rebuilders, from Hobby engine rebuilders to Professionals they are hoping to achieve the same goal running Hercules engines yes ?
There is just the one difference between both sets of restorers IMPO some want airworthy engines for their restored aircraft to fly, why not all come together and help each other out ? Never mind whoever wants a certain item to complete there engine and another has it spare but will not aid the other for whatever reason ?
I always thought all restorers had the same aim to bring history alive quite literally ? very sad really IMPO, unless I have got it completely wrong in which case:-
I wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused for my error of judgement.

Geoff.
Hi All,
I watched the programme last night and being totally honest I enjoyed it, I found that Guy was genuinely interested in the details and the engineering behind the recovery, and they human side of it was dealt with quite delicately all said and done.
I was surprised they never managed to have a flyover from the BBMF but in hindsight I suppose their Lancaster cannot answer all requests either due to other commitments or recent groundings ?
It did remind me however of the B-24 that is still in the zuiderzee and the decision not to recover it for whatever reason and like mentioned in the programme there are many more wrecks awaiting the same procedure.
I suppose being realistic they will never be able to recover all and it will take an awful lot of money and willpower to give the go ahead for these projects. Hopefully these type of programmes will keep this subject in the public eye forever and not just become part of the ‘ We don’t like to mention that ‘ PC brigade.
I have the upmost respect for anybody involved in these projects as without all organisations involved the families who have unanswered questions, the wider public let alone the aviation enthusiast would never know and for that I thank them.
One last thing I did reach out to Guy Martin as I was concerned I had inadvertently stirred up a hornets nest and received a reply to which the following was part of:-
” It was funded by the Dutch government, along with the war graves commission and Guy went along and got the backstory, helped with the recovery which was filmed by channel 4 to raise awareness for the work being done.”
Cebro:- Just out of interest what organisation do you belong to ? you never mentioned it in your reply post and do you have a website for interested parties to view ?
Anyway like I and others have said we enjoyed the programme and that is what it is all about at the end of the day, long may these type of programmes continue IMPO.
Geoff.
Hi All,
Cebro – If that is the case why not cause a stink ? I suspect that this will not be the first time this sort of thing has happened by pulling the wool over peoples eyes. I mean as an example look at the alleged Reform character who has suddenly disappeared and the accusations of an alleged C4 plant, puff! vanished.
How about contacting Guy Martin direct ? I imagine being as he is a straight up guy he wouldn’t want anything to do with this if he knows the truth as you have said.
IMPO Are not C4 committing a fraud ? claiming something that is not true unless during the programmes airing they mention your involvement from the discovery etc. etc. etc.
Anybody else know the in’s and out’s of the legalities of these fraud crimes ?
Geoff.
Hi All,
To those who sent Richard a card a big thank you , I dropped my card and print into the home last night and the manageress showed me the boxes of cards and gifts.
The response to the various appeals was a resounding success and turned what would have been another birthday celebration into a real memorable day. I think Richard will be there until his next Birthday opening the cards and gifts so kindly given….:-)
Thank you again to all who answered the call just like Richard and his two brothers did all those years ago.
Geoff.
Hi All,
12jaguar – Looks like my pestering has yielded some results and a couple were already aware of Richards upcoming 100th so he should be very pleased so many people think of him on his special day.

Hi All,

Geoff.
Hi All,
The last couple of updates have been really good as always, especially you holding up frame to get perspective of your vision. It just shows what you can achieve when like minded individuals come together with a single minded aim to create.
Incidentally my post regarding the veterans 100th B’day Richard served on 7Sqn Stirling’s then Lancaster’s…. : -)
Geoff.
