Hi All,
Things have moved on apace with Mr Postlwhwaite’s latest BOB painting…..;)
Day .3.

Day.4. (Clearly even the best of us have off days Ref his comments below….:p
Day four at Bentley Priory Museum and a much quieter day, giving me chance to start work on the rest of the 70+ aircraft. The concept is to show every squadron that took part in the Battle under Fighter Command. Clearly I didn’t think this one through as I’m now faced with painting 70+ roundels! Tomorrow morning at 11am I’m doing a 45 minute talk which is open to all visitors. No idea what I’ll be talking about yet, but this the boy who revised for his ‘O’ levels on the bus to school on the day of the exam.

Hi All,
A bit short notice I realise and I should have posted in this thread as well as the Dux /Diary but it is what it is a very late request. (From yesterday) Anybody going to this once in a lifetime Dacs Over Normandy event from Leamington Spa ? If so do you have any room for another that is willing to pay his way ? PM me please I will check every day until night before event. Many thanks.
Geoff.
Hi All,
Many thanks Tony, I am housebound by agoraphobia unless Hospital or Dr’s, this event really makes me want to get out and about again so really just a punt as I realise it really is a bit to late to ask. I do hope that you thoroughly enjoy the spectacle along with everybody else who witnesses it no matter what vantage point they are in….:eagerness:

Hi All,
RIP The pilot a sad end to a chaps passion.
I think the Mail article rather typical sloppy journalism to be honest a short mention of the accident then infill with historical facts to flush out the thing. I have mentioned before about some so called documentaries and news articles that use stock footage/Pictures showing different aircraft that are meant to be the one they are chuntering about.
It only took me five minutes to locate the real story behind the Midget Mustang’s adopted camouflage and that it is dedicated to a certain Polish fighter pilot (Wing Commander Jan Zumbach) Pictures and article courtesy of :- http://www.626-squadron.co.uk/willem15.htm . ( Recommend reading the whole of the linked page, very interesting historically not just about the aviation side of thing…..:eagerness: )
Also another fact is Airfix actually produced a plastic kit of the pictured Spit so if I can delve and do a little why can’t so called professional journalists ?

The son of a Swiss father and a Polish mother, Jan Zumbach was registered as a Swiss citizen and hid his nationality in order to join the Polish army. He did his A-Levels in 1935, then and then joined the Army. He did just a short few months unitary course infantry, obligatory for all future officers, but he was going Air Force from the beginning. Mind you the Air Force was at the time a part of the Army and not yet a separate structure.
He served as an infantryman until 1936 when he transferred to the Polish Air Force. He registered with serial no. P-1382.After graduating from flying training in 1938 he was posted to 111 Eskadra Mysliwska. Zumbach did not fly during the German invasion of Poland due to a broken leg as a result of a flying accident during the summer of 1939. He returned to his unit only to be evacuated to France via Romania. While in France, Zumbach flew the Morane 406 and Curtiss Hawk 75 with GCII/55. On 10 June, he was one of several pilots shot down by Bf 109s, but escaped unscathed.
On 18 June 1940, he traveled to England by boat and on 2 August was posted as one of the founding members of the newly formed No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron. During the Battle of Britain, Zumbach scored eight confirmed kills and one probable, mostly against Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighters. Zumbach was shot down by a JG 3 Bf 109 over Dover on 9 May 1941 when returning from a mission, but he was able to bail out unharmed.
Zumbach became one of the first Allied pilots to engage in combat with the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 when he damaged, and in return, his aircraft was damaged by a “single radial-engined fighter” on 13 October 1941. In December 1941, Zumbach was posted to 58 OTU, and in March 1942 returned to 303 Sqn as a flight commander. In May, he was promoted to Squadron Leader and took command of the squadron, a post Zumbach held from 19 May 1942 until 30 November 1943.
During this period, Zumbach flew three Supermarine Spitfire VBs, carrying the serial numbers BM144, EP594 and EN951. All these aircraft carried the same code, RF-D, (“RF” being the squadron code for 303 Sqn) and “D” being the individual aircraft code. All three aircraft carried a cartoon of Donald Duck on the port side of the fuselage, slightly forward of the cockpit. Zumbach’s victory tally was marked with German crosses under the cockpit on the port side; confirmed kills were outlined in white, probable kills in red, and damaged aircraft with no outline.
Franek mentions that Zumbach was called Donald Duck because of his characteristic voice and that the Cartoons differed on each Spitfire and believes colour outlines were introduced only on EN951. After handing over command of 303 Sqn to Sqn Ldr Bieñkowski, Zumbach spent a year in staff appointments, including the Polish Air Force Staff College. He returned to flying duties as the commander of the 2nd Polish Air Wing, No 133 Wing.
On 25 September 1944, he scored his final victory of the war, a probable kill over a JG 26 Fw 190 over Arnhem. I do not have the record at hand butbelieve it was downgraded to ‘damaged’. Franek. On 30 January 1945, Zumbach was posted to HQ, No. 84 Group. While flying in Auster MT440 on April 7th 1945, and with Squadron Leader Kawalecki in Auster NX532, a light unarmed two-seater aircraft used to visit units under the Group’s command, he made a navigational error and ran out of fuel. Both Austers force-landed in enemy territory and their pilots spent the final month of the war as a prisoners of war. At the end of the war Zumbach’s final victory tally was 12 (and 2 shared) confirmed kills, five probables and one damaged. Post war he resumed service with HQ, No. 84 Group.
Demobbed in October 1946, he joined a small air taxi company involved in smuggling. He continued those activities for a few years, then settled in Paris and started in the catering business (a bar/restaurant gastronomic – not sure the proper name). Apart of that he became entangled in the arms dealing business, and was personally involved as a mercenary pilot during the Katanga and Biafra wars.
He passed away on 3 January 1986 in Paris, France. He is buried in Warsaw, Poland, at the Powazki military cemetery.

Just a shame that the Mail never included a few historical snippets about the history behind the unfortunate pilots personal dedication to a Polish fighter pilot.

Hi All,
I don’t know if he would do this request but why not try Neville Wheeldon he makes all the JJ/NX611 videos so is it possible he may be able to help ? or at the very least put you in touch with somebody who may do a better job than he could. ?

Hi All,
Operation Avalanche 2016 (Via BBCi – Available until 03/06). I enjoyed this conspiracy theory found footage type of thriller film. Based on the premise the moon landing was faked conspiracy and if it was how it could have been faked by the CIA, if your into your Sci-Fi/Thriller/Drama then this is for you. It also shows with just a bit of imagination and great SFX (Nasa control room footage including actors as an example!) how a low budget film can be made well under the mega millions that other films waste………..
Starring:- Matt Johnson,Owen Williams,Andy Appelle,Jared Raab,Josh Boles,Ray James and Sharon Belle.
Two CIA agents, part of the Agency’s (then) small Audio Visual (AV) Department, infiltrate NASA to expose a potential mole working for the Soviet Union. There, they find that NASA has kept its inability to reach the 1969 deadline for the Apollo 11 Moon landing a secret, with a plan to cover the problem by shooting down the Apollo 11 capsule (killing the real astronauts) and blaming the Soviets. When the young agents learn that the Moon mission can execute everything but the lunar landing itself, they become involved in a plot to use their AV skills to fake the landing portion. As their operation continues to a successful conclusion, the team becomes increasingly paranoid that they are being watched, by either the mole or by the CIA itself. As the Apollo 11 mission nears, the team buries copies of what becomes the found footage in a verdant rural field.

Hi All,
Missed these two excellent pieces of artwork from John D Shaw released 06 & 20/04 via his Facebook page, both available now at various outlets ………..
Return to Kimbolton
Flying Fortresses of the 379th Bomb Group head home, escorted by P-51s of the 4th Fighter Group, following a 1944 mission into Germany. Based at Kimbolton, the 379th flew more sorties and dropped a greater bomb tonnage than any other group in the Mighty 8th Air Force. Carol Dawn, the lead plane in this painting, flew over 120 missions, the third highest of its group, before returning intact… to the U.S. after completing its tours of duty with multiple crews during the second World War. Four squadrons made up the 379th, including the 524th, 525th, 526th & 527th, and logged some of the most colorful and celebrated missions of any American heavy bomber unit.

Alpine Eagles
As the paratroopers of the101st Airborne tour the newly-liberated “Eagle’s Nest,” flyboys of the 325th Fighter Group, the famed “Checkertail Clan,” buzz past with a wave…The feeling in the air was electric when American troops reached Berchtesgaden, Germany in early May 1945. Once, these Alps were “Flak Alley,” but now the war in Europe is won and this storybook land is again a playground. Nazi Gemany… has finally surrendered, and the sound of gunfire has been replaced by the pop of champagne bottles. American pilots can now soar without looking over their shoulders. Victory is here. Originally commissioned as a companion drawing to accompany the print “The Eagle’s Nest”, published by Valor Studios in 2009, “Alpine Eagles” now comes to life as a colorful limited edition in print and custom oil-accented canvas.

Hi All,
What about reactivating Woodbridge/Bentwaters ?
Geoff.
Hi All,
Is there not a fundamental flaw with all these wind turbines at the moment ? In that all the energy they make cannot be stored and that is why you see some turbines for the most standing still, that being the case should the next move be better and bigger storage capacity designs ?
Personally I think they are a blot on the landscape especially when not doing the job they are meant to be doing.
Geoff.
Hi All,
I have watched two films within days of each other one via Netflix the other Sky Cinema. Both are of the Sci-Fi genre one not as good as the trailer makes but is a good storyline as far as the drama goes and the other quite good that has a good twist at the end along with good drama and action sequences..
Annihilation 2018, I had wanted to watch this for a while as the trailer hinted at a good storyline, it has some good SFX and the storyline is quite good but needed a couple more action sequences to enhance the film IMPO. All that said it is still worth a gander if you like the Sci-Fi genre as at the end of the day I enjoyed watching…..;)
Starring:- Natalie Portman,Jennifer Jason Leigh,Gina Rodriguez,Tessa Thompson,Tuva Novotny,Oscar Isaac,Benedict Wong,Sonoya Mizuno and David Gyasi.
The story follows a group of scientists who enter “The Shimmer”, a mysterious quarantined zone of mutating plants and animals.

Upgrade 2018 Another film that was well worth waiting to watch, if you like Action/Sci-Fi then this is for you a low budget film that hit’s the ball out of the park for me personally I thoroughly enjoyed this film that like I say has a good twist at the end……
Starring:-Logan Marshall-Green,Betty Gabriel,Harrison Gilbertson,Melanie Vallejo,Benedict Hardie,Linda Cropper,Simon Maiden,
Christopher Kirby,Clayton Jacobson,Sachin Joab,Michael M. Foster,Richard Cawthorne and Kai Bradley.
A brutal mugging leaves Grey Trace paralyzed in the hospital and his beloved wife dead. A billionaire inventor soon offers Trace a cure — an artificial intelligence implant called STEM that will enhance his body. Now able to walk, Grey finds that he also has superhuman strength and agility — skills he uses to seek revenge against the thugs who destroyed his life.
At the end of the day you either like or dislike films as everybody has different tastes and expectations which is what it is all about……..:eagerness:

Hi All,
Well he’s finished it another true masterpiece especially for the Jaguar connoisseur….
From Michaels Facebook page 14/05. “THE LAST SORTIE OF JAGUAR XZ378” is now complete and with my printer for photography and proofing. The text and titling block has been endlessly edited but this is probably the final version: THE LAST SORTIE OF JAGUAR XZ378
Jaguar GR1A XZ378 “EP” No.6 Sqn, RAF Coltishall, flew into retirement on 31 May 1990. The last sortie was flown by the artist as the Bounce on a 4-aircraft low level attack mission during which he earned his 2000 Hours+ Jaguar badge. Jaguar XZ378 is now in the Langdon Private Collection.
Here is the finished painting with the beautiful Frinton Gallery handmade frame prepared for it.
