JDAMs are about 13 miles or so give or take. Again, if it is 2000lb class most targets will still die even with a 20 meter CEP. Then of course there is the airburst option too.

Weapons mentioned already like JSOW, JASSM, SLAM-ER use IR imaging in the terminal phase. Again, no big deal here. With upgrades to those you have to eliminate the data-link also. Radar assisted and radar assisted off-set bombing with JDAM for targets that allow it do quite well too, …without the GPS update. Again CBU-105 is INS only

I’m not saying INS doesn’t work but I’m saying you have to take out the “ standoff” spell in your arsenal and your shipborne fighter bombers have to venture much inside the PLA’s defense envelop in order to delivery. A scenario most likely you will face hundreds of PLAAF interceptors guided by CGI/AWACS and hundreds of SAMs, alone the Chinese coast, there’re 2 or 3 dozens of S-300/HQ-9 battalions and many more HQ-2/Tor SAMs posts. Don’t think China will be a country like Iraq that totally lack of strategy depth.

You have to consider too that while other satellites might be taken out, GPS is extremely high in orbit. More, PLAAF has more and more GPS assisted systems so there might be times when they don’t want GPS down. A downside here is since they don’t have the keys to the kingdom on mil GPS encryption that might not help them. Don’t know. ???????

When you are in Space, no gravity and atmosphere affections, the distance is a minor factor to be considered. The thing in difference is compared to US, PLA is still far lacking C4IRs thus far less depend on satellites, and also, many PLA weaponry is built with the mind to use 3rd party signals. Are Yanks going to shoot non-Chinese satellites as well?

soft power? from where it comes from. Taiwan exist based on cheapness of products and if it loses it cheapness status to China it will lose its economic existence. soft power is totally different thing. Soft Power is what Russia represents to third world in arms and natural resource deals. by raising the Gas price to Europe. It automatically raise the market of Gas price for Azerbaijan, Iran, Algeria, Kazkistan, Qatar, Turkmenistan, Kazakistan, Uzbekistan, Libya all the way to Venzuela. the same is true for Platinum, Uranium, copper etc. China make cheap products ruined most of third world industries. as small countries can get economies of scale. Russia represents wealth for them. All the third world has got this message.

Ignorant contributes to Annoying. How cheap are Taiwan goods compared to your Russian ones? Taiwan lost its low value productions to mainland China is not equal to Taiwan therefore lost its economic existence. However, it’s more integrated into mainland China, your mention of Taiwan’s production shifting to Mainland has well illustrated how Taiwan issue is not only a military option can solve, China can use well linked communications with the island to apply softpower, much more profound than your case of Russian’s simple rising of gas price. More or less a man want to more for his blood donated.

Japan/China economic existence depends on US. the day US becomes bankrupt. Japan/China will die of hunger.

So the other way around also stands, US rely on 2 Asian giants money to run its daily life. Can Russian do the same to US?!

China ‘may cut US debt holdings’

US-Chinese trade relations are coming under increasing strain
China may reduce the amount of US bonds it holds as part of its foreign exchange reserves, an influential official has reportedly said.
The remarks, made by Parliamentary vice-chairman Cheng Siwei, triggered a fall in the US dollar against leading currencies in European trading…

China is a major funder of US debt, holding about $260bn (£149bn) in US Treasury bonds – second only to Japan.

Any reduction in China’s dollar assets could hit the US economy.

Should China cut its US dollar holdings, this could drive up long-term yields on US bonds, which could in turn put pressure on interest rates.

2600 + 10000 =1260 billions of USD hold by China alone, Ya, Actually China should always be silent or anything ranting like someone will make the world market panic.:D

Sakhlin one has Indian participation. the rest of Sakhlin most of others have been offloaded.

See what I replied to Gollevainen, I know u will use isolated case to continue your ranting, show us what the breakdown value of Russian’s export to China, and what Chinese’s, You will know.

But isen’t that becouse you are in fact in north america? I couldn’t even count all the russian and soviets stuff that I’ve used, not even the military stuff which IMHO are actually better than the counterpory western sutff that I’ve used….So while the Star is clearly throwing the usual anti-china BS, wouldn’t it give better image of you to not throwing the usual anti-russian BS?

Very “convincing” , for someone lives in a country VERY close to Russian and have a very pleasant memory with its giant neighbor in the past. Perhaps Star has to rely on those extreme cases to support his usual ranting

But I’m very sure you equally can’t count your China stuffs in your daily life, even though China is tens of thousands of Kms away from your hometown.

the bottom line is Russia much stronger at the end with its powerful Nuclear Force and first and second strike ability with wide dispersion. better airdefence and early warning system.U dont have anything. thats why u cannot solve taiwan or anyother issue.

Taiwan issue alone is not only a military matter, as long as China does not determinate to solve it NOW, the capacity of PLA is irrelevant to the Taiwan issue. From time to time you demo urself here you know nothing about softpower in play. China is not blindly to play only the military muscle card, but more emphasis on softpower, such a principal difference deems to have different fate between today’s China and former USSR .

Russia already paid not ony its debt but also of all the 15 republics. Japan cannot pay its own debt. Japan and China have yet to stand on there own feet. they need US market, education, research and protection for stable supply of natural resources.

So what? Most plainclothes are debt free but entrepreneurs are usually in debt, who got more say?! You seems to be hooked to the China bashing thus blind you to just take some plain & major economic events in the world, when do you last time heard any news Russia is influencing the world economy but not hearing of China? How about Chinese yuan & Russian rouble? You are out to talk anything economic because you even not aware that Japan & China combined are the US’s biggest creditor and biggest bond purchaser, without these two countries, US is bankrupted, Yes, China & Japan are financing the US so as it can still purchasing the goods made by the two Asian giants.

Natural sources? Ya, Russians are providing such to both China & Japan, Some role like a blood donator.

Standoff is the best selling point of those “Smart” weapons, without GPS correction, see who can tolerate the drift caused by pure INS guidance.

because in Defence no one shares or publish top of the line expertize. USSR/USA had much smaller economy than current China but at that time they could build Aircraft carreirs and Supersonic bombers.
u can take simple example of J-10. China can hardly make 30 to 40 a year but more than 2 decades ago US could make 200 F-16 a year with older production line.

Apparently you forget to feature in the deflation factor etc etc, so on so forth. And there’s PPP also in play.

Think another way, if China just like 2 decades ago, without expanding its Comprehensive National Power, can it eventually built ASAT or J-10 at all?

defence is not directly related to economy. In Globalized world u can build economy with foreign capital, trade and expertize.

Pardon me how you explained “defence is not directly related to economy” by saying ” In Globalized world u can build economy with foreign capital, trade and expertize”?!

China Mobile is a spin-off of China Telecom. China Telecom is now more a fixline communication company. Nevertheless, Vodafone has invested 2.5 billion bucks in China Mobile’s share when it went to IPO several years ago. An investment contributes to China Mobile to outgrow Vodafone itself but of course also big profit rewarded for it, just considering how much China Mobile’s share price has gained ever since.

Looks like this one still lacks the new holographic WA HUD.

No surprise, do remember the J11B prototype also served as testbed for WS-10A turbofan engine. It was reported a stall incident during WS-10A’s fly test in 2004, so at least we can see the J11B prototypes existed as early as in 2004.

…-10 will challenge the F-16 Block 52 aircraft on the world market.
“The Chinese strongly want to sell J-10 on the foreign market; this is the reason that they are promoting it now,” he said.

He said estimates for the J-10’s cost run from $25 million to $40 million, less than the $60 million Chile recently paid for an F-16.

“If China were to combine these prices with far better market exposure, such as flying the J-10 at Le Bourget, and the logistic assurance of large numbers in the Chinese Air Force, they would start to achieve some market share at Lockheed’s and MiG’s expense,” Chang said.

Last April, Pakistan announced plans to buy 36 FC-20s — the Pakistani designation for the J-10s.

Chang suggested that Beijing will offer the J-10 to Iran, in hopes of dissuading Washington from selling more F-16s to Taiwan. •

Tphuang: the magazine’s name is “兵工科技” or “Ordnance Industry Science Technology” in English. Actually, this magazine usually carries some good interviews with the personnel involves in Chinese military industries, the most famous is it carried a interview with SD-10’s deputy Chief designer in 2003 which released a lot of data of SD-10. Some funny guys in Chinese forums like to nickname it as “民工科技”, because it sounds similar but totally in different meaning, “民工” in English means “emigrated workers” rather than” Technology workers
