    RE: Lockerbe

    nah… Andy edited his post…

It originally said something along the lines of…

    —————

Was Lockerbe (can’t remember the spelling) the worst air disaster to date?

Were there surviors, and were there any changes to cabin equipment (particularly seatbelts) made as a result of this?

    —————–

Now, I’d say he just got confused, and, on realising his mistake, just erased his original question. But you’d have to ask him, I suppose…

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-11-02 AT 01:26 AM (GMT)]anyway, no it wasn’t the worst disaster. there were 259 on board Clipper Maid of the Seas (N739PA) that night (December 21st 1988), and a further 11 residents of a sleepy Dumfrieshire town were killed by debris.

The already mentioned runway collision of PH-BUF and another PA Clipper in Tenerife in ’77 had far more casualties, for a start.

Lockerbie was a bomb, seatbelt length wouldn’t have come in to it…

they’re not too bad, as far as i can remember… only flown them once, 5 years ago, SFO-EWR. Their website has quite good info on their planes, though.

I’m not sure either… wasn’t it Singapore who were first to confirm engine model?

    I kinda assumed it was them… :S

NJ isn’t in New England, it’s to the south/West of NY City, along the Coast… New England’s the Boston area.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-10-02 AT 11:35 PM (GMT)]Lufthansa does them, although I think they require German language skills.

I’ll bet most airlines do… there are usually some good ads in Flight, I’d say keep looking…

I’ve got the old Airbus one, with the various Airbus a/c in house colours flying past, in front of various backgrounds.

jeez… longest (actually only) flight I’ve been on a 767 was LGW – PIT, and that seemed a long enough flight… about 9 hours, if I remember correctly…

    RE: United Airlines In Trouble.

has the 767 got the range to fly non stop from the West Coast to Europe?

I’m surprised at them using the 76 on the SFO-CDG flights… Surely there must be an enroute stop somewhere?

RE: What could be the reason of the cockpit-window cracking?

    it cracked?

dunno… there was a case about ten years ago of the cockpit window on a BA 1-11 coming off at 37000 feet. the pilot was sucked half out, but fortunately the purser managed to grab hold of him, and restrain him for the rest of the flight, until the first officer, who was thankfully an experienced man himself, managed an emergency landing at Southampton.

There’s a report on that at the AAIB website. it was due to faulty installation of the screen. but as to cracking, I couldn’t help you…
