    RE: Airport Security Fails (AGAIN!)

T5, it was a bmi flight to Embra, not Glasgow.

(sorry, that’s Edinburgh for all you not fluent in Glaswegian)

    RE: UAL93

    I saw the program.

Not sure about it, it’s all really speculation about what happened when the pax charged the flightdeck.

I also didn’t think it was a 757, there was defiantely an overwing exit behind one of the rows in the first cabin. In fact, I thought at first it was a BA a/c, looking at the seats, but it obviously wasn’t.

The black boxes were found, but weren’t made public. They were played, in confidence, to the relatives of the victims, whilst saying something about making them public would compromise any future court cases ensuing over the flight.

Beleive me, I had palpitations watching it, but somehow, well, it seemed a bit staged.

But believe me, flight 93 is always in my mind…
My father was enroute LHR-EWR at the time (His was one of 4 BA flights redirected to Halifax), and a couple of years ago, we travelled together on the 8am UA flight from SFO to EWR.

RE: Suitable equipment for new airline

As a passenger, I generally prefer the Airbus over the 737, as it’s that bit wider.

However, the 319 I don’t think is particularly economical on it’s own, unless you can get economies of scale by also operating the 320/321 (Certainly the 318 is prohibitively expensive used outside the family). The 737-600 would be the NG version of the -500’s size.

You could also look at the ERJ190, or the CRJ900. Ok, the last two haven’t yet had the chance to prove their durability, and probably aren’t the best idea if you’re looking to expand later (in which case, Airbus’ cockpit commonality could be invaluable, for upgrading to 320/321 or even 330/340) The 737 fleet could also be increased to other, bigger, NG a/c should you want to expand.

    Either way, best of luck!

    RE: Bad flying experiances.

I had a terrible experience whilst touring with my Rugby Club two years ago…

Our Air France flight from Paris to Toronto ran out of alcohol half way across the Atlantic.

We were actually given no choice but to sit watching the IFE with no beer in our hands… for Three whole hours 🙁

If you can still get it, there was a full list of the Variant numbers in the AW Boeing special last year. Maybe it’s still avaliable in the Key Aviation Shop?

RE: AF and low budget airlines

I think France dosen’t need low cost airlines as much… the TGV is generally faster/cheaper city centre to city centre, anyway.

As for thr Government restricting new airlines, I don’t think so, but the Unions might be…

yeah, as you say, the last two digits refer to the airline that ordered the a/c.

    couple of egs:

    -x22 American Airlines
    -x23 United Airlines
    -x36 British Airways

They now have to use letters for new carriers, because each BBJ operator also has a different number.

BHX is the regular stopover for refuelling for that flight, I’m told.

    that’s a 757-300, not a -200.

unsure about that… bmi baby currently (or as from January, anyway) will fly to GLA from East Midlands and Cardiff, and with bmi’s base at GLA, too, I’m not sure why they’d want to move down the coast to PIK.

    RE: New Newark Name

gd, I’m more than aware that EWR is closer to the upper west side than JFK. It’s just tongue in cheek.

Hell, in Europe, Newark is generally refered to as New York Newark, anyway.
