Talking of Easy’s A319’s, can anyone confirm if GEZES has been dlvd yet?, and if so, the dlvry date. This is the a/c that was at Farnborough, but I’ve not yet seen any reports of it being in service

EZES dosen’t as yet figure on the CAA website, although EZET does (was registered a week ago today (the 11th)), although Certification for it is still pending.

It’s great fun to be vindicated, I’ve been moaning about ZRH for ages (and didn’t I say about a year and a half ago that easyJet would eventually move their ops from ZRH to BSL?).

First up, on Tuesday, Swiss announced their half yearly results (33Million CHF, but a considerable improvement on the same period last year (333Million CHF 😮 )), and CEO Christoph Franz fired a broadside against ZRH’s punctuality ratings. (no surprise there, I can hardly even remember the last time I left there on time… 1990, I think it was?)

Then, on Wednesday, easyJet announce they’re pulling out of ZRH, citing ridiculously high fees.

If anyone’s interested, there’s some excellent newspapaer articles on it (although they’re in German) at…

And finally a Map of Switzerland to give you a general idea… Basel’s about 100km from Zurich, 55 minutes by Train, just over on the Motorway.

Curiosity has forced me to check the terms and conditions on the Fly Globespan website, it says you can’t consume your own beverages on board with the exception of water. So I guess it’s ok to bring on those fish suppers and donner kebabs ?

easyJet emphasise that the only alcohol permitted to be consumed on board is that sold by the crew, which obviously makes sense as it allows them to keep track of consumption, and stop serving if they think you’ve had enough.

As for only letting you bring your own Water, it may well be so as to make sure you’re not swigging a bottle of, say, Coke with a large shot of Johnnie Walker in it…

As for brininging your own, I’ve walked onto BA aircraft before with a bottle of Lilt from the gateside WHSmith before, and drank it whilst taxi-ing, it’s not a problem normally, even on ‘full service’ airlines.

But then again, you all know the contempt I hold the All Day Deli in… 😉

Don’t be so silly! Cancelling the flight would damage their image much more than the loss made by operating the flight!

You think Swiss could damage their reputation any more than they already have?

I know people who’ve had bookings for lunchtime flights with Swiss this month, that have temporarily been suspended for the ‘low season’ (the flights from Basel-Vienna/Amsterdam/Brussels etc), who’ve been rebooked onto either the morning or evening flights, and then only told about the change when they turned upto check-in. Kind of takes away the point of passengers having meetings planned, really, dosen’t it?

Nice! Fantastic there are still planes around wearing the Crossair colours!

There are still a couple of Crossair liveried ERJ’s about, and the Saab2000 fleet I think only one is currently in full Swiss colours, with 2 still in the old blue and red splashes along the fuselage colours scheme (in fact, I saw one of them when I landed at Basel on Sunday).

So, in conclusion, what can I say, easyjet were good, hyper punctual, thoroughly enjoyable, and I look forward to having the chance to fly them again soon.

I disembarked via the rear Stairs again, and did manage to take a photo of the only aircraft on the freight stands, before heading back home, still wondering where Saturday night’s hangover was…

Scheduled time of arrival was 8pm, although we touched down at 7:28pm. The Terminal came into view before we’d left the runway, and it was obviously as busy as SXF had been 🙁

inflight time was a total of 64 minutes (and 41.0 seconds, if you want to be precise), despite the schedule being 95 minutes. It indeed wasn’t long before Alsace came into view and we descended over the Rhone-Rhine Canal, before touching down in full view of BSL’s fire station (that’s the building with the tower)

and there we were, up in the air. Now, let’s talk punctuality… as I said, scheduled departure time was 6:25pm, we took off at 6:23pm (!).

Inflight Bar service, well worth 6Euros of anyone’s money… 😉

Legroom I suppose was just about passable, although I was intrigued by the PA system…

The Safety demonstration was first described in German, before being described on a tape in French, before the crew showed up, and perfomed the demonstration as it was read out by the senior FA, in English (she was english, though, as, going by his accent, was the captain).

There was a request to keep the blinds up during takeoff (there was a question about this a month or two ago).

There were a couple of planes parked up outside the LH Technik Hangar beside the runway at the other side of the airfield.

looking at the queue, I obviously hoofed it round to the rear of the aircraft, and selected Seat 20A, where I could see the ‘action’ that was happening on the Apron…

Come to think of it, there wasn’t much to do airside, either, the DutyFree and a Bar, and that being about it. Plus with the length of the queues in the DutyFree as the Aeroflot crew stocked up on Cognac (I’m not joking… ever seen a shopping basket with 8 bottles of the stuff in it?)

So after yet another Pils (for the road, this time) in the Bar, it was time to head down to the gate. Once again, flying to Switzerland means going through a Passport check at the gate, as you’re leaving the EU. But this did mean that we didn’t have a gate equiped with an airbridge, so it was a walk across the Tarmac to our SXF-based A319, G-EZEG (delivered new 1st April this year) (it had arrived 40 minutes prior to our scheduled takeoff, if I’m not mistaken, it was inbound from Bristol). As I walked out, a Germanwings A320 parked up right in front of me, whilst the Aeroflot plane pulled out.
