Ah, the Nou Camp… brilliant (pre kickoff)
Stupidly, I didn’t take any more pictures for the rest of the flight, although I more than made up for that on the return flight, but more of that later…
Anyway, the flight was full, so it took a fair while for the Trolley to get round selling Breakfasts. In fact, the Purser (or Business Class Maitre’d, either way, he obviously wasn’t used to being in Economy), who served me, had some difficulty in working out what the menu option was (I had the Coffee, Orange Juice, Croissant and Fruit Yoghurt for 10 Franks [about 4 pounds]).
The flight lasted 1 hour 19 minutes, and upon arrival in Barcelona I was chuffed to see that my bag had made the connection at Zurich, despite the short time avaliable (although minimum connecting time at ZRH IS 40 minutes).
The real reason of my trip was, of course, this…
(my only regret is that the steward ripped off the wrong end 😡 )
yeah, ok, that Picture isn’t brilliant, but nonetheless, I saw it. Anyway, after pushing back, we taxied round towards the runway, when the Captain came over the Intercom and said we’d have to stop to deice. Well, obviously, I had ringside seats to watch, as first an orangey stuff got sprayed on, and then, a green substance was applied. As we waited at the Runway threshold shortly after, I could see bright green wings on the Swiss ARJ100 taking off in front of us. Shortly after, it was our turn to head off, and we quickly climbed up into the overcast Zurich skies.
I was a bit worried on landing at Zurich, at 6:35, as the boarding time for my connecting flight was down as 6:40, and I still had to transfer from Terminal A to the new midfield Dock E, but fortunately, as I checked the screens on disembarkation, my flight to Barcelona was delayed by around 10 minutes, so I was quite chuffed, as I took the underground Metro out to the new midfield Dock. After passing through Security again (my heart has almost dropped as I saw the queue), I sprinted upto the gate, but was relieved to see that a) I wasn’t the last person to board, and b) I wasn’t the only Celtic fan onboard the flight.
Pure Magic. By this time, I’d already seen Royal Barge taxi past as I’d landed from Basel, although I didn’t get the chance to photograph it (sorry, T5), although I soon spotted it again from onboard the Swiss A319-112 (HB-IPR) I’d boarded, at the other end of the Terminal, behind a Swiss A340 and an A330.
don’t forget, for that added bit of realism, to take the AF 777 out into the garden and bathe it in some mud… 😉
Nineteen… that reminds me of something? Something to do with points…
All looking good for Thursday night. I’ve got my ticket for the Nou Camp sorted out.
‘mon the Hoops!
gd – I think the real reason there’s more travelling to away games in Europe as opposed to the States is that generally trips (in the league) ain’t that far, so when you get the chance to go on a bit of a road trip with the boys a couple of times a year to big European nights, you grab it with both hands. Anyway, all of the British Teams still involved have pretty lucrative destinations to fly off to… We’re off to Barcelona, Newcastle are off to Palma to play Mallorca, Liverpool are off to Marseilles… the only ones with not such a good draw are Arsenal… who travel all the way from North London to Southwest london to face Chelski…
Ah well, mine not to reason why.
Just a pity we’re not playing anyone decent at the Weekend… 😉
don’t get me started on those muppets…
riots indeed.

There’s a whole raft of extra flights to Barcelona from Glasgow this week for the Barca V Celtic Uefa cup game on Thursday. Mainly from the usual holiday charter firms such as Thomas Cook, My and Monarch.I see on the departures list a Monarch A330 and two Atlanta 747’s amongst others.
Don’t suppose you have ETA’s for El Prat for them? My Swiss A319 isn’t quite as exotic as them… (well, in this part of the World, anyway  )
And imagine Celtic fans flying on Monarch… 😮 😉
British Airways 757-236 GLA-LHR Easter 85. Connected to BA L1011 LHR-CDG, and returned a week later direct CDG-GLA on a BA BAC1-11.
whose? QE’s? still 2 aircraft. LX’s? well, no one seems to really know… they’ve been leasing out Embraers left right and centre, but they’ve just received the two jetmagic planes back after they went bust, and apparently they’ve been painted back in LX colours… so whether or not LX has decided to keep the spare capacity, I dunno… (although, to be fair, going on past form, they probably don’t have a clue themselves, muppets that they are… )
maybe they’re getting 17 319’s, 17 321’s and 1 320?
The national day of Ireland. (yet) Another excuse to drink copious amounts of black stuff. 😀
any other infor on that, then? Is it SXB or MLH based? (MLH would be a helluva lot better for me… ;)) Any info on destinations, at all? THere dosen’t seem to have been any mention of it in the local papers, despite me living in Alsace…
is dutch beer different from other beers, in that if you drink too much of it, you post double, rather than seeing double, as is the norm with other beers? 😉
