Yeah, of the 16 clubs in the top two leagues, 7 are from the Lake Geneva Area (3 in Geneva, 1 in Nyon and 3 in Lausanne), mainly staffed by French players, and only three of the other 9 are in the non french speaking areas (Basel and Zürich with all the expats, and Lugano, with Italians).
I can’t imagine there’s a particular strategy behind it, but, as EZY don’t operate with transfer passengers in mind, it’s probably just easier for providing point to point flights for Parisiens.
South Europe at ORY and North Europe at CDG is pretty similar to AF, anyway?
I don’t think there’s a specific classification of Long haul, ETOPS only says that a twin engined aircraft must be within 3 hours flight of a possible diversion airport at all times, which, obviously, if you’re flying across land, you’re almost always going to be, anyway.
It was 39° in Basel on Tuesday… which also happened to be the first day of preseason training at the Rugby Club… Jeez, it was hot…
Again, much as I prefer the A320’s cabin cross section to the 707/727/737/757 one, the 757-200 wipes teh floor with the A321.
Ren, more thrust in the Airbus? you’re joking right? You’re talking about comparing an aircraft with slightly souped up 737 engines, and one with 747 engines. When the 757 revs up, you know you’re moving, it’s the whole exhilaration of flying, with the Airbus you just don’t… get the same adrenaline rush when she sets out.
Sure, you all know my affection for the RB211’s, but even so…
Admittedly, I’ve only flown on the one 321 (Swissair ZRH-LHR two years ago), and numerous 757’s (at least a dozen BA examples on GLA-LHR flights over the last 18 years, plus a US example PIT-SFO and a UA one SFO-EWR six years ago), but, in my mind, there’s no comparison between the two.
are you on commision? :p
That Tail belongs to the former Swissair Asia aircraft, HB-IWN, which operated the route to Taipei. It’s one of the 5 Swissair MD-11’s that haven’t received full Swiss colours, just a sticker over the ‘swissair’ name.
Presumably, they won’t be altered, as the MD-11 is currently being replaced in the Swiss fleet as the A340’s arrive (last MD-11 due to leave the fleet next March)
there’s a DC-8 parked up outside the Jet Aviation hangar at BSL, too, where I used to work. The BSL division is more a Maintenance/outfitting base (BBJ’s and ACJ’s get their interior there, along with all kind of Gulfstreams, Falcons and Challengers, plus the occasional widebody). They also handle some airlines, which is what Jet at ZRH mostly do, ie check-in, although Jet Zurich also has an air taxi fleet, including that DC-8.
try looking up http://www.jetaviation.com
Incidentally, Hand… nice airport in your original pic 😉
Actually, it’s an airworthiness directive, you could probably cross reference it if you can find FAA AD 2003-07-08 Amdt. 39-13104 or Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 757-54A0039 Revision 1 (20.6.2002)
Basically, it’s about possible hairline cracks in the engine struts which could lead to engines falling off in flight. It dosen’t appear to mention anything about the length of the cabin.
I’ll have a look at it for you, wys… although it looks pretty technical… :S leave it with me for a day or two…
yeah, but Flight, being weekly, has an advantage over AW when it comes to reviews and stuff…
Anyway, Flight is more for people in the industry, with thorough technical baseknowledge, AW is more to keep the guy on Street up to date with what’s happening.
Apparently there’s been a Saudi BBJ parked outside Jet for just over a month, so that’ll be what I saw.
not nearly as exciting as an SP, is it? 😡
I actually saw a Saudi tailplane parked up behind Swiss HQ whilst I was driving around BSL earlier. Unfortunately, that was all I could see of the aircraft, as there was a hangar in the way, and there was nowhere to park, either.
I’m assuming it was stopped next door for Maintenance (at Jet Aviation)? Will see if I can find out any other details, and maybe try to get back over there for a pic tomorrow.
It’s the BAe ATP (Advanced Turbo prop), it’s a stretch of the HS 748.
And it’s another of Wys’s favourites… 😉
Ah, finally something with more than a hundred seats! LTU A330-200 D-ALPC on a weekly Charter flight to Punta Cana (no, I don’t know where that is, either)
