I haven’t flown in during a game, but I suspect you wouldn’t see much detail, it looks like about it’s [Twickers, that is] about a half mile or so to the left of the flight path as you land.

Well, LX have deferred their deliveries till next year, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Alitalia has now taken on the ‘launch customer’ mantle, and will start operating them this autumn.

but don’t the US already encourage Cubans to hijack flights and seek refuge in Florida?

point to point is probably more feasible in the States than in Europe, purely because of the slot restrictions this side of the pond.

Sure, I’d rather travel point to point, but the reality of travel in Europe is generally via a hub.

That’s why I think Airbus have probably got the slightly better long term strategy with the A380 than Boeing with the (proposed) 7E7.

On the whole, I think you are correct, though.

BA’s flights to Philadelphia operate from T3… don’t ask me why, though…

right, please excuse me talking through a cloud of Stout (talking of which, is a there a stage at which the body has had enough pints of Guinness for one night?)…

    er… yeah, Airbusses.

nah, I don’t really know why they chose to go that particular way, although there are A321-100/-200’s, as well as A320-100/200’s (although, as far as I’m aware, only A319-100’s).

So I’d assume it was just easier to go for the terms 319/321 rather than coming up with 320-300 or whatever. it also allows room to expand the 320 at a later date.

with the 330/340, isn’t that just a continutaion of the 300/310 numbering programme, where there were various different models.

er, tell you what.. the short answer is, I haven’t got a clue. Maybe it’s just pure Genious.

yeah, that sticker at teh rear of the aircraft, with the stars and stripes, commemorates SIA’s first flight to LAX ‘California here we come’, which proves how long ago the pic was taken.

    Same difference…

    Bayern is german for Bavaria.

if you want to be really picky, mongu, BMW stands for ‘Bayerischer Motor Werke’, not Motor Works, although again, it does mean the same thing. 😉 :p

right, Beamer engines on the 717…

The engines were originally a joint venture between BMW and Rolls Royce, hence them originally being designated ‘BMW Rolls Royce BR710’.

However, Rolls Royce bought BMW out of the deal, and the engines are now sold with just the Roller badge on them, although they retain the ‘BR’ designation.

Re Israeli 717’s, I thought there were some, but it apears not. :S

Is there not some Spanish operator as well? there’s definately an Israeli operator (although, wherther or not that qualifies as Europe is another matter).

But, frankly, without having travelled on a 717, my opinion of the MD-80 to travel on is unprintable, so my perception of the 717 isn’t very high (although it’s somewhat saved by having Rolls Royce engines ;))

SIA (Singapore International Airlines), rather than SAA (South African Airways), surely?

Well, yes, it was a aircraft in the special colourscheme that was involved in the crash at Taipei, although SIA had 2 such decorated a/c… presumably the second one was repainted in a rush so as not to evoke images of the crash?

At BSL, we get twice weekly Korean Air Cargo 743’s from Seoul, as well as DHL and FedEx having 727’s based here.

Swissair Cargo used to have a daily Gemini DC-10 to ORD, but I don’t think Swiss still have that in operation.

There’s also the occasional Antonov 124, bringing parts for the Peugeot factory at Mulhouse, while Air France Cargo and SIA Cargo also have offices (although I can’t recall having seen either of their aircraft here)

isn’t it just typical… (without trying to play up to the paranoid tim stereotype ;))

ManU get to the European Cup final in Barcelona in 99, and get flown out by Concorde.

Celtic get to the UEFA Cup final in Seville, and get flown out by 146. 😡

Anyway, the team arrived in Jerez this afternoon, where they’ll spend the next two days before driving the 90kms up the road to Seville. According to BBC Scotland, due to ‘security concerns’, the team bus was driven straight out to meet the plane on the runway at Glasgow airport before departure, having first had a reception over Breakfast with Jack McConnell MSP, First Minister of Scotland.

No such luck for the fans queing in the terminal building, but I’ll bet they didn’t get to fly Concorde, either… 🙁

Anyway… if that 146 brings the trophy back, it’ll be my favourite plane, even without RB211’s… 😉
