RE: Virgin Atlantic Flight 43 info
Q is economy… it just means the ticket was sold as an Apex/other cheap fare ticket…
there are about a dozen different letters for Economy, depending on the actual fare paid…
As regards VS43, it’s scheduled as a 747 (dunno if it’s a classic or -400, though).
RE: Boeing 737 Fuels Virgin Blue Expansion
don’t Air NZ currently use 737’s on trans-tasman routes?
RE: London City Airways?
they were the home carrier at LCY, set up for business travellers in the 80’s. Dunno what happened to them, but they had two or three Dash 7’s in their fleet.
RE: Scotland’s first low-cost airline launched
you still reading that rag, Ren?
join the bhoycott… Circulation figures show a drop of 60’000 copies in daily circulation from November to January…
60’000… now that’s a familiar figure… where’ve I heard that before… ? 😉
RE: Checking in bags
I’ve never had a problem, either, except where the tag wasn’t long enough for the amount of connections I had to make…
I flew Crossair from BSL to LHR five and a half years ago, then BA from LGW to PIT, and finally US from PIT to SFO. On check in at BSL, they said they could only check the luggage as far as PIT, as that already included threee ‘flights’ (including BA0000 Van service from LHR to LGW).
Nonetheless, I was paged at Pittsburgh to be told my bag was still at Heathrow… And that it would be flown to PIT via FRA the next day. Despite saying I wouldn’t be in PIT by then, as I was only there for a three or four hour layover, they said the bag could only be sent to PIT because that was as far as it was tagged, and I’d have to leave an signed afadivit at the BA luggage desk for them to be able to forward it on to SFO.
So, you’re probably as well uplifting your bag and checking it in again manually, anyway…
RE: Newcastle
is that Newcastle, Co. Antrim?
RE: Using photos
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-01-03 AT 06:15Â PM (GMT)]if you’re linking to one off the web, you just put in the picture’s URL (although not all servers will let you know the pic’s URL.)
ie. http://www.anyoldaddress. server/picture.jpg (space added intentionally so it dosen’t try and find such an address)
alternatively, if the pic is on your hard drive (or if you save a picture from a website on to your HD, if eg you can’t get the URL), when writing your post, yoou click on ‘click here to choose your file’, under the Attachment line at the bottom of the post. you then get a popup window, where you can input (or run ‘find’) the location of the pic on your HD.
You than have to remeber to select the type of file (either .jpg or .gif for images) to be uploaded, as the default is uploading as an html document. then click ‘upload’, and it takes a moment to upload, then you can either upload another file, or you can just close the popup, the address for the uploaded file will have automatically been entered in the attachment line for the post.
simple. 😉

RE: Astraeus 737 diverted after fans ‘riot’
well, again, from a certain fhanzine…
——————————————————–
Welsh police have finally brought charges following enquiries into the alleged mid-air riot on flight AEU308.
After interviewing more than 140 passengers, flight crew, cabin crew, stewards and several journalists willing to act as character witnesses for the Astraeus’s employees, two brothers aged 17 and 18 were arrested early on Saturday morning and whisked down to Cardiff. The teenagers were placed in separate police cars, presumably in case these desperate felons turned upon their captors and fled into the hills. Upon arrival at their destination the two were charged with “suspicion” of causing a “riot” in the air.
The arrests are peculiar considering the fact that the six passengers originally arrested included two 37-year-olds, with the others aged 40, 42, 45 and 51. Presumably the police have insufficient evidence to charge the original detainees with any offence, which calls into question the reliability of the aircraft crew’s allegations that led to their arrest in the first place.
“You are lucky if either of the two are over 5 foot 5 or weigh even 10 stone for that matter and as I have already stated have never been in any bother with the law before,” said a friend of those charged. “With the profile of this case being so high, especially in today’s climate, and the money been spent on helicopter escorts the police need someone to blame and since that they could never blame the airline or pilot, who by all accounts has over reacted to a nothing situation, they have subsequently decided to scare two young boys senseless in the hope of finding a scapegoat.”
The fact that only two passengers have been charged with such a curious offence also brings into question the allegations that two separate incidents occurred on the flight – unless each brother held their own one-man riots. There is also the fact that the commercial director of Astraeus, Jonathan Hinkles, claimed that a member of the cabin crew had been physically assaulted, it is strange indeed that no charges have been brought regarding this serious offence. It is also rather peculiar that the behaviour of two slightly-built teenagers could have led the cabin crew to inform the pilot that they had lost control of the cabin and thus precipitate an emergency mayday call; it should be remembered that this action should only be taken when loss of life is imminent.
The E-tims will watch developments with interest, meanwhile passengers are standing by their accusations that the riot claim was a ruse to divert an aircraft suffering from persistent mechanical problems.
RE: Where is this aircraft now? Air Europa Express
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-01-03 AT 10:25Â PM (GMT)]you sure it’s G-OAB_?
G-INFO lists an Air Europe Express Shorts 360 registered G-OAEX, which operated for Air Europe Express from 9/3/89 to 23/8/91, subsequently reregistered to G-BKZR.
there’s a pic of OAEX, and the E could quite well be mistaken for a B, if it was hidden behind a door.
BKZR flew for B Cal commuter, till the 4/10/94, when it was transferred to the US registry.
Before flying for Air Europe Express, it flew with Manx as G-SALU for 3 and a half years. It’s serial number is SH.3628 if that’s of any help to you.
(incidentally, G-INFO has pictures of both G-OAEX and G-BKZR.)
Oh, and LTU tristars… could well be Dusseldorf, as that’s LTU’s homebase, and, with two on the pic, there’s surely a chance it’s at home…
RE: Pic Of The Day – looong!
nah, United dosen’t have any 753’s.
They have a second overwing on the 752’s rather than a door behind the wing, meaning they can fit an extra row or two in rather than having a galley there.
I think there are a few US airlines that have gone for that option.
RE: Quiz of the Day — My own Aviation Crossword
er… without wanting to be pedantic… but I don’t know of any CITY named after John Lennon… and surely if it was it’d be called just that… Lennon…
course, if you mean city served by the airport named after John Lennon, I know where you are… }>
RE: UK Charters go to Garuda?
