I know baseline F-4E’s (some F-4D’s perhaps?) could carry the AGM-45 Shrike, and the later F-4G carried both the AGM-78 Standard and the AGM-88 HARM. What about now? Has the Phantom completely rid itself of SEAD capabilities nowadays?

AN/APG-65 is the radar used by Kurnass 2000 and F/A-18A, so it would be compatible. So would be the AN/APG-66 of Peace Icarus, coincidentily the same used on F-16A. Don’t know if the Norden AN/APG-76 synthetic aperture radar from the test program was compatible.

Hawx will be happy to see the last one mentioned was a SAR. 🙂

Some line art for an example of how it might look. Not sure how the missiles would look on it.

Other than the HUD, HMS, and AIM-9X my list carried all the rest. Well, except for the “Norden Senthetic Apeture radar” which is what the E-8 JSTARS carried. Doesn’t really fit on the F-4. 🙂

I was only going for the equipment that was integrated experimentally and operationally on the F-4. The AIM-9X and IRIS-T would pretty much overlap in capability, would they not? Never was a HMS for the IRIS-T capability planned for Peace Icarus that I can find; apparently it is unnecessary to use IRIS-T. In order to get the AMRAAM and IRIS-T support you had to drop support for the AIM-7 as it doesn’t designate targets like the radars it replaced. I did take the liberty of adding the KB-35 Strike Recording Camera which is a rudimentary standard in quite a few of its predecessors. I believe the F-4’s used still frame imagery without a livefeed or recording capability like what is available today.

OT – In the UK do you spell it “Brasil” or “Brazil”? In the states we use the latter.

    one-piece wrap-around windscreen
    probe aerial refueling
    color multi function cockpit screens
Have Quick V/UHF and long range HF radios

    **** mechanicals ****
2x Pratt & Whitney PW1120 (two engines were on one ‘Kurnass 2000’ demonstrator in 1987) = TF30 equivalent thrust
F-4S wings (F-4J’s big wing with extra control surfaces)
    Twin-stick controls
    PACT fly-by-wire (YF-4E demonstrator)
    canard nose (YF-4E demonstrator)

Couldn’t one say that about ANY warship?

Not really, because the Russians don’t want the communications and weaponry installed on them. They will basically leave France as civilian flattops. The ship couldn’t survive even a single exocet strike, so I have doubts about their military viability.

Seems like the Predator already has that role pretty well taken. What do you gain by a pilotless Bronco?

Underbody/wing airflow is only significant at subsonic speeds below Mach .85 approximately. Once you begin to climb beyond that region there is a drag penalty compared to overwing airflow.

There used to be a lot of jato takeoffs from carriers. They were equally as smokey.

It sounds like N-156NN was a wider wing and podded engine housings, making it kind of like a miniature YF-17/MiG-29 crossbreed. The F-5 really wasn’t the same airframe.

If the PW1120’s are pushing out a proven 20k lbs of thrust, why try to put in Speys with bigger fan stages?

Anyone find Peace Icarus with the newer AAM’s underwing?
