Put the 1969 film Easy Rider http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064276/ into the player this afternoon.It’s a great period film,a cult classic and a piece of movie history.This was the first “independant” film (Fonda financed most of it on his credit cards) that Columbia acted as distributers for.It takes you back to the future on a chopped Harley time machine,with Fonda as our guide,Hopper as the mad scientist and Nicholson coming along for the ride on a journey into the neverland of America.If you’ve never been there,pull up an armchair bike and,if you have,come back to the past.

A shame he won’t “Get On Up” any more really… 😮

Had the pleasure of seeing him do his stuff 3 times.The man was “Super Bad” and “Out Of Sight” because he had the “Soul Power” to “Get On The Good Foot” when he had to “Get Up Off That Thing” because he was always “Gonna Have A Funky Good Time” waiting for the “Night Train”

Merry Christmas all.I spent Christmas Eve in the company of Holly,Paul(Fred) and “cat” at what is fast becoming my fave cinema,The Picturehouse in good old Greenwich.Of course,the film I was watching was Breakfast At Tiffany’s http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054698/

My favorite bits are……

THAT long black dress that recently sold for $800,000.
The little black dress with the big black hat and cream scarf.
The towel/sheet that looks like a Roman toga.
The party,the very funny shoplifting scene,the party,and the scene where Holly sings Moon River on the fire escape.Henry Mancini was asked to write a song that would fit within Ms. Hepburn’s very narrow vocal range.Anyone can can hit ALL the notes.Try it 😉

Wether or not Holly and Paul (Fred) end up together is ultimatley less important than wether they can forgive each other-and themselves-for the many errors of their ways.
Capote’s New York is not a place where redemption comes easily,but maybe these two (“cat” included) can find it.
Holly deserves a happy ending:D

On the Waterfront…. a hard-hitting but pretentious melodrama about union corruption on the New York docks. It is directed by Elia Kazan

Not seen this 8 Academy Awards winner in a while.From what I remember,this was a crusading indictment of corruption and those who,by keeping silent,go along with and accept such acts.But I found,maybe as you did,the the ending is far too optermistic,given the herd-like behaviour prevelant elsewhere.Life isn’t this easy,considering the power of the Mob. I’ll put it on my “to catch up with” list.

I’m off to the pictures tomorrow to go window shopping with Holly Golightly in New York City,accompanied by a Henery Mancini music score 😉
