A Carpenter classic, perhaps, but one in a long line of ****-poor adaptations of a good Stephen King novel, I think! :rolleyes:
Carpenter put much more emphasis on the car providing the scares, rather than the spirits that possess it. The book was brilliant
As Smokey Robinson sang….”I Second That Emotion”.The best SK adaptations,IMHO,are The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.But Christine is a GREAT Saturday Night popcorn film,as is JC’s The Thing and The Fog:D.Much better that the “I Know What You Did” and “Scarey Movie” films;)
By the way,has anybody noticed that “Bad Boy” Mel Gibson’s new film Apocalypto http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472043/ has again put a spanner in the Hollywood machine and has gone straight into the number one slot this weekend,even though this film is spoken in Maya’n,and we all know that the Yanks hate subtitles.Just like his last film as a director The Passion Of The Christ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0335345/ the spoken language was Aramaic,and won critical acclaim.
Are the Yanks finally realising that there are some bloody-good films out there not spoken in English?
Again,as with TPOTC,Gibson put up his own money to finance Apocalypto and is,in aviation terms “Flying Balls-Out”,and is sticking two fingers up to the “old-guard” producers.
Of course,I have yet to see this film but am glad that it has attracted so many bums-on-seats stateside:)
