We in Germany do have an alternative to military service for those who decide not join the Bundeswehr. (Yes we still have a draft)
It is called civilian service, young men work at hospitals, in the fire department, social services, etc. They spent more time (2 months) in service as those who decided to go to the Bundeswehr. I would feel that it is extremely wrong to say that these people do nothing for their country.

You can help your countries in different ways, you do not have to fight for it.

Well there is a major difference between the US and europe, we in europe believe that noone should be forced to fight (read defend his country) if his conscience forbids him to do so. We find nothing wrong in refusing to serve, as everyone must decide on his own if he can kill another human being and if there could be any reason to do so. If he decides that he can´t, that is his decision and has to be respected. Noone would be appaled.
I have great respect for the Israelis that refuse to serve, as they must find themselves in great troubles for just defending their believes. On the other hand I also do have great reaspect for those that do serve. Both do what they think is right, so both have my respect.

I have no respect for PA terrorists killing inncocent civilians.

    RE: Israel vs Palestine

I do not believe in the “news” I posted but the media in europe are more then happy to bring these news to the people.

I personally understand Israels move and every German should now understand it too, as 11 Germany died in a bomb attack in Tunesia, which was planted by supporters of Palestinian freedom.

But not all Palestinians are terrorists, as not all germans are Nazis.

What I´m always trying to say is that I´m missing a bit of political plan from Israel. The goverment should tell the world what plans they have for Palestina.

Although it might not seem that way, but I really understand Israel, but I do not like the way the military operations are done. It leaves too much gain for the other side when public relations are considered. I mean Israel is in reality the good guy, but you have defend your country for its right to defend its people from terrorist attacks.

    RE: Israel vs Palestine

Well P2, I can totally understand your feelings and I have noe warm feelings to the Palestinians either. Some german tourists were killed in Tunesia last week and now it seems if it was an attack to support the freedom of Palestinia. This was nothing to compare with Sept. 11 as this was an attack on the whole civilized world.

But I strongly beleive that we can not win the war against terrorism with purely military means. The same goes for Israel in my opinion. Improving lifing conditions in countries like Afghanistan and Palestina helps to root out the main source of terrorism.

Political initiative must work hand in hand with military actions. So for Israel that would mean going against the terrorist and trying to get a political solution on the same term.

Desert Storm saw some huge, but onesided, tank battles.

A India vs. Pakistan conflict could see heavy tank battles.

A millde east war could see them.

    RE: Israel vs Palestine

Well I stayed out of this for long, but now I want to add some new facts

1st: Israel is to open a prison in the Negev desert again. This prison was criticsed my Amnesti International for the living conditions and many prisoners died because of the heat and scorpion bites

2nd: Most countries (including the US) want Israel to stop their operation, yet they continue with it.

3rd: The Israeli Army itself admited that there had been around 500 civilan casualities during the operation.

Try Iberia for suffering – nothing can beat them. (Although the stewardesses looked very nice) I had the honor once to fly with them to Spain from DUS, but that was not nice at all. The 737 made noises as if it was about to fall to pieces. The food was, well eaten once before. They were friendly nevertheless, but they only had newspapers in Spanish with them. (I did not get that much of it)

Since this time I prefare to go with Condor, as they are cheaper and their service is ok. A bit like Lufthansa, nothing special but correct to the point.

RE: Most successful aerial operation of WWII?

The German invasion of France, and how they used CAS to support ground troops, was clearly highly succesful.

Operation Bodenplatte, was a failure. It destroyed not many (concerning the numbers available) allied planes, yet it cost the germans their last experienced pilots, operational planes and precious fuel. These planes would have been better used to stop a Rhine crossing.

    RE: MMW radar.

Good points, but if it would be widely used some one would add RWR on the tanks and they could pinpoint the emitters location with that.

I honestly do not believe that this is an option for MBT, but a good idea for a recon vehicle.. I have added a picture of the Fennek recon vehicle, developed for the Netherlands and Germany. The idea of mounting a MMW radar on the mast seems good to me.

(At the moment there are opticla sensores used)
