RE: What is the greatest WWII fighter?
My fighter choice would be the Ta-152H or a long nose FW190 D9
RE: MMW radar.
Perhaps someone can fill me in. If I´m correct a MMW can not look through wood, buildings, or slopes. And it is not able to identify a tank excactly enough to decide if freind or foe.
So what would be the use of a MMW for a MBT ? All engagements are taking place within line of sight and during this circumstances IR and low light systems offer a better picture of the enemy and help to identify the tank. I could think of a 360° MMW to detect incoming ATGMs and fire the reactive armor before Impact, but whatelse ??
A helicopter can gain height take a look out to 10km and then attack the targets, but a tank would be never able to look over a slope or pop up over a forrest. Therefore the engagement range will always be limited to the line of sight.
So plz explain to me the use of a MMW on a MBT.
RE: Whats your favourite car?
If I had much money : Ferrari 360 Modena
If I had less money : Porsche Boxster
If I had even less money : Audi A4
With the ammount of money I have : VW Golf IV – with the TDI engine it does not need much fuel and is still fast enough (and fuel is expensive in germany)
-> so that is my current car

RE: Israel vs Palestine
The comparison with Iraq and Kuwait was just a point for controversial discussion. On the other hand, when you see the autonomus regions as the heart of a future palestinian state, then you could say Israel has invaded a country.
But as I said in my last post is the stupid style Israel is conducting this operation. The suicide bomber and their supporters will find even more support in the Arab countries and in Europe.
I would have liked to see Israel demanding a palsestinian cooperation in the hunt for terrorists. Say an agreement to conduct police operations in the autonomus regions with support by the palestinian forces. Say they sent officers over to the Israelis who then join the Israelis on the operations. If Arafat would have disagreed on that, Israel would have had every right to act on it own.
I read a comment in a german newspaper today, where they demand sanctions against Israel and if the violence continues even the stop of all diplomatic relations between Israel and the EU. Public opinion is swinging against the Israelis at the moment.
Furthermore I doubt that the operations will stopp any suicide bomber, I think they will become even more, as most Arabs feel that this is the only way to hurt Israel.
On a site note german / european peace activists are trying to help the palestinians in “their struggle for freedom against Jewish suppresors”. ” of them are in the same compound as Arafat and freely spreading news to the media about the cruelty of the Israeli forces.
There even was an article about palestinian babies dying in a hospital, because Israel has cut the medical and power supply for the hospital. With such stories continuing to spread in the world Israel will have a major defeat when it comes to publc opinion.
As a matter of fact most people in Europe never had a very real thread of being killed by a terrist attack. (I know ETA and IRA but they are less dangerous for the individual civilian) Most europeans can´t imagine to be in danger when going to the supermakret or having a drink at a restaurant. Therefore we have no right to judge the Israeli way to deal with the problem, but it is done and Israel is seen as the bad guy.

That is excactly what I meant and I agree fully to what you wrote and I´m not defending the suicide bombers and the people indoctrinatiing them. I´m only critical about the way Israel is handling the problem at the moment. It seems like Scharon only uses the military and refuses to negotiate about a peacefull settlement. The Saudi Arabian proposal seemd reasonable to me, yet Israel showed interest in talking about it. Mr. Scharon should keep talking with Arafat and telling him and the worl that the operations will stopp if Arafat does something about the terrorists. (other then supporting them) Israel could demand the help of the palestinian authorities when arresting terrorist suspects. We all know that they would propably reject this, but then it would be clear who is responsible for the current problem.
RE: Israel vs Palestine
I think there is no sense in talking about the Jews and the Arabs. I´m sure there is a huge majority of peace loving people on both sides. The problems are their leaders (or to be excact the combination of the 2 leaders), who seem to have a deep hate for eachother. I think you can put more blame on Scharon then on Arafat, simply because Scharon can much more easily control the Israeli army, then Arafat can control the suicide bombers. But with the ongoing violence I´m sure there is no more use for talks between these two leaders, as both have comitted themselves to use violence to remove the other. Perhaps if there is a change of leaders, there can be a peacefull solution.
But who should replace Arafat on the palestinian side ??
skythe : I really understand your feelings and plz believe me I´m not making anti Jewish comments or have any such feelings, I´m just sure that a civilized state like Israel should be able to make better politics then the palestinian authorities. And do you believe that there can be peace as long as the palestinians are living in ghettos like the Jews were living in the 1930s ?? There is no doubt about the right for a Jewish state in palestina, but isn´t there a right for a palestinian state in plastina too ??
Now I better take cover.
RE: F1 Grand Prix
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-04-02 AT 07:10 AM (GMT)]On the M. Schumacher topic, I think he and Montoya are in the same class when it comes to driving abilities. They both are extremly fast and take risks no other driver would take. On the other hand both have a tendency to bend or brake the rules if neccessary to win a race. I´m really waiting for the next races to see more of this duell. Ralf Schumacher is a sissy in my opinion. I´m sure Montoya would have beaten M. Schumacher when he would have been in Ralf´s position during the last 10 laps.
RE: Israel vs Palestine
Sorry I can not agree to the above post. When I said it is the same as the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, I meant it in the way that a military stronger country invades a smaller neigbour.
I´m really against the suicide bombers on the palestinian side and they should be catched and the groups supporting them destroyed, but what Israel does right now is the best recruting advisment for suicide bombers that one can imagine. To a young man in Palestina it must seem certain that a political solution is not possible and with a black personal future (unemployment, housing situation, etc.) it must be seen as attractive to die as a martyr. No army in the world could stop these peoples.
Let me tell you again that I do understand the Israeli motivation of protecting their citizens, and they do have every right to do this. I just have strong doubts if the current military strategy will win in the long run. Just remember that there are more suicide bombers now then ever during the last 20 years. And there where really few of them when the political talks with the laten Mr. Rabin seemed to find a peacefull solution.
RE: Israel vs Palestine
I just hope that all arab nations stopp the supply of crude oil to the West, so that Europe and the US are forced to get some sense back into Israeli politics. What Scharon is doing is unbeliveable stupid. If any other country would have acted that way it would have been seen as anaggression against a smaller neighboring country. What the Israelis are doing right now is the same thing that Iraq did to Kuwait in 1990.
Do not get me wrong I´m really against the suicide attacks of the palestinians against Israeli civilians and I´m sure that there are many terrorists in palestina, but the current Israeli policy will never stop these attacks.

Thx, that did help a lot. Now I only need to know if he had any victories before he was shot down.
RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences
German charter airline Air Berlin. A319 in charter outfit with plastic seats. Sweating like hell, the food was awful and you really had no room at all to move your feets. This was really bad.
